I started a thread in the music forum and only one person replied. Shame on you all. You need to check out The Posies, one of the best power pop bands of all time. If you like stuff like Cheap Trick, Big Star, Teenage Fanclub, etc, then they're right up your alley. Gorgeous harmonies, choruses that stick in your head forever, crunchy riffs, the occassional amazing guitar solo, clever lyrics, and some of the best pop songwriting this side of The Beatles.
Their first album, Failure, had a great 60's garage pop feel to it. Think The Zombies or The Hollies. Dear 23 was more produced and orchestrated, and has some of the most beautiful music ever recorded. Frosting On The Beater had their "hit" and a grungier sound. Amazing Disgrace continued the grunge sound but had some punkish numbers and a few great pop songs that would have fit nicely on their first album. Success is an album of mostly older songs from throughout their career that they finally recorded as a goodbye before their first breakup. Nice Cheekbones and a PhD is a mostly acoustic EP with a bit of an Americana sound. They have two live albums, one acoustic and one with a full (and very drunken) band. Every Kind Of Light was their "comeback" album and it sort of blended a little of everything they'd done before.
Their myspace mostly has songs from their most recent album, but if anyone is interested in their earlier stuff let me know and I'll hook you up with some mp3's.
