Let's put this to rest. Ledger has my vote, hands down.
And disregard having Batman Begins in Heath's option. I don't know why I put that there.

Heath Ledger, he just went all out for it and played the psychotic side that Nicholson didn't
Nicholson seems psychotic in every role he plays... He was a pretty brilliant Joker. I haven't seen the new flick but lets not be too hasty in putting Nicholson's Joker down.

i'm not gonna vote on that, it's not fair really, I mean while the Dark Knight is far superior of a film as far as structure, the 89 film and Nicholson's preformance are a timeless classic. Burton is my fav director and I can admit that TDK was better in many instances, but if it werent for the 89 film, there wouldnt be a movie of BB or TDK, 89 was the first step in getting the publics view of Batman into the dark aspect of the comics and out of the BAM!! POW!! BOOM!!! tv show crap(even tho i enjoyed that too as a kid) Anyways, both roles were great, but I will agree with Tim Burton as far as Nicholson goes that he was "almost too perfect" to play the Joker, that you almost wouldnt want him to cause its too obvious, and I remember when I heard that Ledger was cast, it was the last person on my mind, but I mean, the work speaks for itself, he showed the true nature of the character, and I wish he could be here to see how much ppl are loving it.

Nicholson's joker is straight up terrible compared to Ledger's. Anyone who thinks otherwise is crazier than the joker himself

it's hard to say because both films have different approaches. the new batman series has a more realistic (if you can say that) look at how things would happen, as opposed to the old batman series, where things were a bit comical and grandiose. think about the street scene where batman's in the batpod heading for the joker as opposed to the original batman, where batman is in the batwing and joker has that huge gun.

I was expecting Heath to win, but not by that of a margin.

Yep.. the Nicholson flick was really campy and for what it was he played the role perfectly.

whoops, typo. I must have been in the series train of thought.
Yeah, this is an unfair comparison.

The batman from '89 wasn't as dark as the one now... I'm sure if Jack Nicholson re-did it to today's standards, he would have done just as good of a job in terms of actually being able to fairly compare the two.

I agree thats its not a good comparison because they were given two entirely different characters to play...that being said I, like practically everyone else, enjoyed Ledger's character a lot more.

i agree with that one...havent seen dark knight (yet) but the joker characters are completely different.
nicholson would've done an amazing job if he was asked to portray the joker that ledger played...i'm surprised they didn't get jack to play him actually.

Ledger.
His character look the and his whole persona are better than Nicholson's whole role in the movie.

Nicholson doesn't have to act to be psychotic in a role cause he's a psycho in just about every role. That's his niche. Ledger has never played a role anything like this and killed it. Even if you don't consider that, Ledger was still better. Nicholson's performance was ok, but nothing to brag about. Ledger couldn't have had a better performance. He killed it

Why did they put batman begins in the poll? he wasn't really in that movie.
Heath Ledger straight up.
It seems like he created more of a character than Jack Nicholson did.
