Accidente - Exotic Payday
Record Label: Exigent Records
Release Date: February 13, 2008
Who?
These four Salt Lake City punks curb the rumors that there’s nothing exciting about Utah, and they do it by howling at the top of their lungs and/or beating the living shit out of their instruments.
How is it?
It’s pretty cool. Accidente move along that Blood Brothers line of noisy hardcore that borders on goofiness but feels sincere, and the best part is that they sound like their own group. We’re coming to that point in hardcore punk where almost everybody seems like a parody of themselves – even the new Underoath track sounds like it’s desperately trying to be Define the Great Line – and creativity is sparse. You’ve got to give props to a group who can still make the sound original instead of aping former greats.
Of course, there are plenty of bands that helped to shape the Accidente sound. The guitars borrow heavily from Fear Before The March of Flame’s chaotic bag of tricks, and the vocals move around the punk rock circuit from Blood Brothers to Gallows (but not British). In all honesty, the biggest flaw I found in the Accidente sound is the occasional over-stretched moan; the vocals aren’t really the best part of the music. They don’t really hurt the EP overall, but they do sound like they’d do better on a Ween b-side. Still, credit is due for "Crackwhore"'s take on Mike Patton and "Eh Buddy"'s twangy take on... well, music.
01. Barbarous
02. Invader
03. American Tourist
04. My Pleasure
05. Exotic Payday
06. Crackwhore
07. Eh Buddy
08. Sexy Space Bitches
Fear Before the March of Flames’ Art Damage, Gallows’ Orchestra of Wolves, The Diamond Stretch
