Numero6 - Quando Arriva La Gente Si Sento Meglio EP
Record Label: Green Fog / Venus
Release Date: 2008
Who?
Italian exports Numero6 play the kind of music that’ll make your girlfriend (and okay, you too) swoon. Best played over a candle light dinner (so sue me if accordion music made me think of Lady and the Tramp).
How is it?
All it took were the words “Velvet Underground” in the influences section of their Myspace (coincidently some of the few words that I could understand from their all-Italian site) for me to make my decision. While Velvet Underground’s presence isn’t as heavy as the modern singer-songwriters and indie-rock musicians listed, every single thing on the list rules so you know right off the bat where they’re coming from. Now, I know you can’t judge a band by what they’re into (Limp Bizkit listened to The Who), but sometimes it helps to see where they’re coming from.
The melodic, stripped-down acoustic numbers like “Quel Giorno Cosa Avevo” are head-noddingly soul searching, and mystical for reasons more than just the language barrier. The authenticity of running your Myspace and writing your lyrics all in your native tongue is awesome – they’re making music true to their hearts, not for some big American cash in. Also along the lines of authenticity, the honesty in the singer’s voice will be sure to win over some fans. This dude’s melodies are catchy as hell, and a cameo from Bonnie “Prince” Billy on the first track doesn’t hurt either. Definitely worth checking out. 50% more accordion than your current favorite band, guaranteed.
01. Da Piccolisimi Pezzi (featuring Bonnie “Prince” Billy)
02. Navi Stanchi Di Burrasca
03. Aspetto
04. Quel Giorno Cosa Avevo
05. Un Segnale Debole
acoustic balladry and sweet accents
