this list is fucking awful. much respect to greg ginn, but i wouldn't call him one of the greatest punk guitarists of all time. johnny ramone and steve jones were atrocious. kurt cobain wasn't much to listen to either. they completely left captain sensible off of this list, and he shreds everyone on it. chris hannah is easily one of the best punk guitarists of all time. the forget melvin and el heefe from NoFX, who can seriously wail some incredible solos. Ron Asheton deserves to be on this list as well. It's clear that whoever wrote this has no interest in punk music whatsoever.

they just namedropped all the main guitarists of the token mainstream-acclaimed influential punk bands and put them in some kind of order. they probably didnt narrow down a list of more than 20 guitarists.

I'm ok with numbers 3 - 7, I gotta say. I really can't feel all the Sex Pistols hate, still one of my favorite bands and one of the first punk bands I listened to. And not to quibble over things, but skill aside, the list is about the best punk guitarists, and I think those five for sure represent some people who wrote great punk songs.

Is Television not punk enough to be considered? Cuz they had TWO guitarists who would pwn most of those guys in their sleep.

Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein's playing is quite remarkable as most of the time he is playing downstrokes and he does it with such fluidity you think is doing up/down.
I wouldn't say GREATEST of all tiime but definetley one of the most innovative. I've never heard anyone that can play like him.

there was nothing punk about nirvana.
Quoted for irony. Nirvana, while not a stereotypical punk band, was WAY more punk than any of the shit around now, and anything around then either. They practically invented the sound used by modern punk.

Firstly it's "nirvana WAS not a punk band" and secondly, yes they were. I don't see how you could even say they weren't punk. They had the punk ideologies, they fucking recorded under Steve Albini, so he must've thought they were real enough, and In Utero and Bleach were straight Sonic Youth-esque noise rock. If you can consider Sonic Youth as a punk band, or even Patti Smith as a punk artist, then I don't see how you can say Nirvana wasn't a punk band, or at least heavily influenced.

That's such a narrow view of punk. It's not just about the music you play, it's about how you carry yourself, and how you express your art. And Nirvana has it's fast and angry songs, just look at the album In Utero or Bleach.

there is a huge difference between being influenced by punk rock, and being a punk band. tell me, do you consider the foo fighters to be punk band? nirvana did nothing original or special, yet they get credit for creating a new movement.
also, what punk ethics did the band carry?
