Recently I was told that Asteria, one of my favorite bands, wasn't very well know.

So, just out of curiosity:
What are some of your guys' favorite bands that aren't big and famous yet???

I've only heard one of Asteria's songs - it wasn't bad.

Mine would be a local band, My Hidden Track. They're nothing too special, but they're fun and put on a good live show. http://www.myspace.com/myhiddentrack (http://www.myspace.com/myhiddentrack)

I'm a big fan of Offshore Riot (http://www.myspace.com/offshoreriot), a local band from Tampa Bay. Nobody's heard of them anywhere, including here unfortunately. I also love American Taxi (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofi le&friendid=194283535), who nobody ever seems to know anything about either (although their lead singer is Adam from Lucky Boys Confusion).

Alot of people around here love them haha. But I guess that makes sense as they're from Indianapolis.

anyway my votes go to:

Bad Astronaut
Drive-By Truckers (great alt.country band)
Gaelic Storm (one of my favorite Celtic/world music acts)
Armchair Martian/Drag The River

Good band. I try to see them every year at Irish Fest in Milwaukee.

And I saw some Drive-By Truckers vinyl at Atomic Records the last time I was there. Like a lot of vinyl, ha.

I saw them in Indianapolis two nights ago, actually. It was a great show and I met them all afterward, nice people.

Haha. They're a really good band but they might be a bit too "country" for some people here.

Haha, sweet. I think that you'd find something to like in them. They have three different vocalists, one of whom is apologetically country-sounding in his voice but the other two (one of them female) have more of a subtle, alt-country feel, so it makes for an interesting dynamic.

Really? Hmm, interesting. I hear "Miserable" on alt-rock stations a lot still. It had Pamela Anderson in the video? It was a pretty big hit, but yeah... "My Own Worst Enemy" was one of 1999's most-played songs so I understand.

Personally, I think their self-titled album is excellent.

I don't know if you've heard of Mogwai, but if you luke Uzi and Ari, they're also great.
Yep, excellent band. I sadly don't listen to them as much as I should.

Seriously one of the best metal bands right now.

Give them a chance.I saw them support Parkway Drive last year. I wasn't overly impressed.

Most of the bands I listen to that people don't know are long since split.

It's not Punk to admit you're fooling around, duder.

Not punk at all.
I'm not punk, I'm a Craig Owens fan.

yeah it seems like they are getting way too poppy, whereas Bears! was a fresh mix of piano rock and pop-punk. shame their peak lasted a month or so, but I'll always support the dudes.

Asobi is mentioned in both shoegaze threads and namedropped by just about everyone. As for Blonde Redhead, don't know what else to say other than they're quite well-known.

They are the type of bands that get tons of love on the internet but really not mentioned much otherwise
