Can I get some recommendations for some acoustic artists similar to Owen, Wolftron, City and Colour, some deep stuff with good lyrics? I'm not really into the older stuff like Nick Drake and I don't really like Iron and Wine. Just throwing that out there. Thanks guys.

Jakob Dylan is pretty deep. Dispatch is a really good folk-jam band, key track by them: The General. The Vaselines are pretty good as well. I am not familiar with any of the artists you've listed so I guess these aren't very good recs.

Why aren't you into older stuff? Just curious, but what have you heard? There's a ton of great stuff from years past that pretty much blows away most of these modern singer/songwriter people.

But if you're set on someone more recent, definitely check out Elliott Smith. His first three albums were mostly acoustic, after that he started to expand and try new things. The best place to start with the more acoustic stuff is probably Either/Or, and if you like that then work your way backwards. But if you're open to orchestrated pop type stuff, his later albums are amazing as well.

SecondHand Serenade is a blatant rip off of Dashboard. The guy even tries to sing like Chris... Horrible just horrible.

EDIT: I saw that you where asking for some stuff. So try out The Reign of Kindo. They are amazing.

I may be kind of a douche for saying this, and I'm not into self-promotion, but maybe you'll like staircase wit.

couldn't hurt to look.

I've not heard any bands you've listed, hope this helps a bit.

Joseph Arthur is good.

I like Landon Pigg.. but he's kinda pop. Old Death Cab is fantastic. Elliot Smith is amazing.

OH! And I LOVEEEEE Copeland. The song 'Love Affair' is the most amazing thing you will ever hear. Especially the chorus

Shameless plug of my band as well. Listen to "Pretend", "Explodes Like Fireworks", and "Recovery"

I disagree. While both of those are good, there's nothing wrong with Elliott Smith. Ignore the rest, probably a good idea, but don't ignore him.

He is good, but he's not what that guys looking for. Stevens uses massive amounts of instrumentation and various ochestral groups (winds, percussion, etc..) I think the guys looking for like a dude with a guitar and a mic kinda stuff.

Yeah, you're right. In that case the obvious Elliot Smith, Nick Drake, and Iron & Wine should do it.

Maybe try not strictly acoustic artists?

In that idea, try... 'Oh No, Oh My', 'American Football', 'Kevin Devine', 'Right Away, Great Captain', 'Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin', and 'Neutral Milk Hotel'.

Those should keep you busy for a while.

Edit: Right Away, Great Captian is very stripped down stuff right up your alley.
