It always bugs me....
Why do people that have no intentions of doing anything but watch stand at the very front, then are angry when they get pushed around by the rest of the crowd?
The band didn't come all the way down to your city to have a staring contest with you.

Did the band come so a room full of dumbasses can pay more attention to kicking the guys around them than listening to the music?

People that "mosh", "hardcore dance", or "headbang" piss me off.
boysdontcry
07/15/04, 04:36 PM
people who stand around and stare at the band looking like they have something better to do should stay home and just download live videos off the internet.

Think of the concept of a live show. The band is there to perform for the audience. They're doing the performance, not the people in the crowd.

07/15/04, 04:41 PM
a truly great live show depends on both the band AND the crowd. great crowd reaction mixed with a great band make for an amazing experience. are you there to have fun or to to look intelligent and scene?
still_life
07/15/04, 04:45 PM
I don't think "great crowd reaction" equates to a bunch of idiots flailing around, spin-kicking each other.
Isn't seeing a band you love perform their songs in front of you fun enough? Why do you have to do ridiculous looking actions to enjoy yourself? That's really the scene thing to do at a show. Hardcore dance. (unless we're talking about Black Metal shows, then the scene, or more appropriately KVLT, thing to do would be to stand there with arms crossed)

i don't think great crowd reaction equates to a bunch of idiots standing around doing nothing.
why should you care if you look ridiculous?
i'm sorry if having fun and screaming the lyrics along with the band at the top of my lungs and just generally having the time of my life means i'm an idiot.
still_life
07/15/04, 04:54 PM
It's not that I care about looking ridiculous, it's that I think the whole concept is ridiculous.
This isn't going anywhere. It's obvious we just have complete opposite views on every aspect.

true. this i just a shining example of why the pits are up front and the standing room is the back.

i hate the people who get pissed at you because you get shoved into them from behind. i mean, if i had the choice, i wouldn't be ramming my chest into the elbows of the people in front of me. but that' sjust a thought
Nate_RAWKS
07/15/04, 05:19 PM
yes this pisses me off aswell i've been through this so many times where i'm jumping around getting down to the music and enjoying the performance and some idiot..generally a jock!!! (sorry but in my experiences it usually is) gives me an evil eye and turns back around to face the band he has downloaded the one song off of kazaa because he scene it on MTV. These people ruin the crowd participation. These are the loser that don't jump around or put their hands in the air when the band asked them too. Aside from this what pisses me off is crowd surfing yes i know its fun and its cool to go back to school and tell all your friends you crowd surfed 17 times last night to The Used but i find it ruins the show...just my opinion...don't get me wrong if you want to do it once or twice be my guest but its these fuckers that do it like 5 times per song. Anyways end rant right....here.

07/15/04, 05:24 PM
crowd surfing is fun as hell but i don't do it that often.
case in point, during coheed's set at the warped tour i was surfing and and when i was get pulled out by security (he was pulling me by one arm and one leg), i sunk lower and some girls head got caught between me and the barricade (while the guard was still pulling). i could hear her screaming and it scared the shit out of me. i just kept yelling "lift me higher you fuckers!" i found her later and she was alright but that still was a bad experience.

I hate crowd surfers. Especially when you don't realize there is one coming behind you and you just kinda get hit in the head. I can't tell you how many times I have been hit by them. I don't mind the jumping and yelling so much because it adds to the experience, and even the moshing. I just learn to avoid them. But crowd surfing. Ugh I hate that.
Nate_RAWKS
07/15/04, 05:28 PM
yeah don't get me wrong crowd surfing is fun but in my opinion i find it ruins the show..i mean you're constantly looking around so you don't get kicked in the face. I find it to be more of an annoyance than anything else but thats me i'm 23 and still going to shows a few times a month let the kids have some fun i guess...lol
boysdontcry
07/15/04, 05:30 PM
I hate crowd surfers.
thanks love. :wink3:
you just have to know what to expect. if you don't want to be around moshing and crowd surfing, don't stand up front with all the moshing and crowd surfing.

Well I don't necessarily hate all crowd surfers. Its just the ones that fucking kick me in the head. I just gotta pay attention to my surroundings more. I'm not so observent when it comes to that. At shows I tend to pay attention to the band. But I'm sure your not an asshole crowd surfer. So I don't hate you.
Nate_RAWKS
07/15/04, 05:35 PM
yes i agree but sometimes i would like to be up front so i can see the band really good still be jumping up and down and getting the vibe from the crowd without the crowd surfers.
SilverStar89
07/15/04, 05:38 PM
And see at all the shows I have been to not a lot of the moshing has been in the front. Its been more in the middle of everything. So if I tend to keep to the edges or front I tend to be safe from the mosh pits.
Nate_RAWKS
07/15/04, 05:40 PM
definetly not safe from the crowd surfing up front...lol
SilverStar89
07/15/04, 05:44 PM
Well...no. But I'm still safe from the mosh pits. But no definitely not crowd surfing. And I hate crowd surfing more than mosh pits. But pretty much anywhere you stand your not safe from the crowd surfers.

moshing is stupid I think, but it does get out aggression, which is the point of alot of agressive music. However, I dont have a problem with Hardcore dancing at all. In fact, I love it. As long as there is a circle pit with people who know what to do, its all good, but usually, at alot of shows, someone will be doing kicks or floor punches, and some dumbass jumps into the middle and gets smacked in the face, and thats never good.
Oh, and crowdsurfing is retarted. It has nothing to do with the music.
hXc_pwnage
07/15/04, 11:32 PM
Hardcore dancing is idiotic. God, it's so stupid. "I CAN KICK HIGHER THAN YOU CAN!"
If moshing takes away from shows, why do so many bands TELL you to get a huge pit going? Why are the best show ( says the band ) the ones where the mosh pits are the biggest and circle pits take up the whole fucking venue?

I just feel that if you're there to watch go to the back or to the seating section for that matter because you ruin it for everyone else. I mean if you simply move out the way then you wouldn't have people all over your back.
But the opposite side of this.....
If there is a band I don't want to see or think they're shit, I won't do a fucking thing in the front but wait fo the next. I was doing exactly that at this one show when Vendetta Red started playing. I was standing next to these "hardcore" girls (you know what im talking about) that were doing the same thing.
Out of nowhere these stupid girls jumped between us and started swinging and going crazy, hitting one of the girls I was next to in the face. Let's just say.....I never seen a girl kick the living shit out another so bad in my life :lol2:
The Vendetta Red girls learned a valuable lesson about the appropiate places to "dance" :lol2:

agreed about crowdsurfing. my first concert i was one of those idiots that did it every five seconds but i soon realized how annoying it is to get kicked in the head and stopped. i tihnk its a good way to get out of a really bad area if you need some air, but otherwise annoying as hell.

i dont mind moshers as long as they don't try and drag people from around them INTO the mosh pit (THOSE motherfuckers piss me off). as long as they do their thing, i do mine, i dont really care.
YearsGoneBy
07/16/04, 12:36 PM
i hate people who dont what they are doing and just go into the mosh to be cool, then they fuck everything up

When I go to a show, I love to dance, sing and get into the music with everyone around me. I don't love having to watch out and be constantly kicked in the face and neck by a bunch of teenyboppers who think they are so hardcore because they can crowdsurf. The worst was at Warped Tour when it got to the point that I couldn't even enjoy Alkaline Trio because there were 80 kids being thrown at my face and instead of watching Skiba the Great, I had to watch the back of my neck from being broken. Sorry if I'm less scene now...
As for stupid people that stand in the front with their arms crossed and no smile on their face...they should be burned at the stake too, esspecially if it's a huge guy standing in front of me and blocking my perfect view...BURRNNN!
Ok...fin...

When I goto a show, I go to watch the band play my favorite tunes, not to jump around like an idiot or to hurt people. I didn't pay 15 bones to flail my arms like a moron, I can do that anywhere else for free; I paid it so that I could watch the band.
I generally stick to the front, because I find the pits and fights usually happen in the middle of the pack. I also get a great view of my favorite band, and I can almost feel their emotions as they play.

i'm usually playing with myself in the bathroom at concerts.

Do any of ya'lls venues have balcony's? The one that alot of big hardcore concerts are at in Dallas does, and it's any easy way to get your ass-kicked. There's always people like belly-flopping off it when everybody's watching the band.
xshywithagunx
07/18/04, 12:40 PM
okay, so i go to local venue shows on a regular bases aslong as i know who's playing, and if they're good. usually my friends and i have house shows, like last month, punch drunk played for us. yeah who was in the bus? me! im fucking cool! so anyways, and the rave, a venue, (un local) they do have a balcony, but not a lot of good bands play their.. like i was there once for from autumn to ashes, silverstein, and hopesfall, and it was in the basement, but i belive i like the basement better.. umm, i also do not like people who mosh at local shows, expecially for bands who just start out... unless you know the band... like will when he was singing.. i was up there helping him and shit.. while everyone was moshing.. but we are all friends... i've moshed before... it's fun.. but im not all mosh, i love to listen to the band itself... i also love people watching at shows.... but i love to people watch anywhere...

07/18/04, 12:55 PM
Yeah.
That kind of lost me.
Why would you pay 15 bucks to sit there and look? You can do that at your computer or on the tv. Shows are to have fun. The band wants you to do shit. They don't want you to just stand there.

07/18/04, 01:02 PM
No one pays to stare at your big ass head the whole night. Take it to the back if you're gonna just watch...

That's why to me the best shows depend not on the band but on the crowd. If the whole crowd is into the show and MOVING around then it's one of the best shows in my book.
I think the same logic could apply to the huge moshers. Can't you just get a live video and kick a hole in a wall?

point taken
The thing is, bitching or talking about it isn't going to change anything. There are always going to be those two groups. Three if you count the drunks.

Yeah you're right....I just made the thread to see how people felt about it on here...
i used to be one of the kids that just stood there. but once i got more actice, i realized its much more fun. dancing, headwalking, its so fun. why cant we kick a hole in the wall? why can't you stare at a wall. its boring to do it when your not with ur friends and with the band there. 98% of the time, the band enjoys it much better when shit is going on and the crowd is active then sitting there looking like, wow, a person with an instrument.
ohlookitspaul
07/18/04, 05:08 PM
honestly, in the end, i dont really care what everyone else does as long as they don't kick me in the back of the head or whatever. then your ass is mine.
but if you don't do that, you're ok with me.

whats headwalking? ive never experienced it
1: get to the stage.
2: start running.
3: run into the crowd using people's heads as your floor.
4: try not to fall over.
5: enjoy
it's rather fun if you can get it right.

the crowd is definitely what makes a good show. it sounds lame, but just the whole atmosphere does it, and you can tell the band feeds energy off the audience. if people just stood there not doing anything, i wouldn't even bother going to shows.
13th hour
07/19/04, 10:24 PM
being in a band, I know. A crowd that is energetic is a million times better than a crowd that just stands there. When youre on stage, you put out energy, and when the crowd returns that energy, you release more, until it just builds and builds and builds.

The people I have the biggest problem with at shows are the couples. I'm sure you've experienced these. The girl is in front of her boyfriend with his arms wrapped around her. They don't move, they're stoic and they get pissed if the crowd starts jostling them. I was at this one show where there seemed to be a line of couples blocking the way to the stage. There was no way to get in front of them...dah! just had to get that off my chest
