When I applied to the University of Alberta, it was ranked the #1 university in Canada. Don't know what it is now.

did you apply there solely because of that?

I'm going back to ASU, then after that I'm going to law school at Temple.
Reasons for going-
ASU: close to home, cheap, fun environment
Temple: Great Uncle has law school named after him, in my home city

I never looked at the rankings, but I'm at Miami because the business school is pretty highly regarded and that's what I started out as. Now that I switched majors, I'm just here because I didn't feel like transferring. It's grown on me.
I currently have no definite plans for grad school.

It always had a reputation as a great school, but it is also the closest university to my hometown.

Same here at SVSU (saginaw valley state university) probably very unknown since its michigan but its known for small class sizes, reasonable tuition, etc, etc, etc.
Start the 25th, uh-oh :(
I just saw the new rankings on the yahoo! front page. My school, UC Berkeley, sits at #21. Amazing school and the #1 public university in the world!! I'd recommend anyone to apply here, despite your GPA/SAT's. They don't mean shit compared to your essays and extracurricular...

I didn't really pay attention at all to rankings when I chose my school. I live in CA so I knew that I wanted to stay in state. I had really good grades in high school, but I didn't have many extra curriculars. That and the lowered cost led me to the Cal State system.
My major is journalism, so I first eliminated the schools that didn't offer that major. I then narrowed the schools down further by location as well as sports success at the campus. No Cal State is a sport's powerhouse, but some are very good at individual sports. I took that into account. Laslty I just thought about what school I could have a good time at.
The was only one school on my list, there was only one school I applied to: Cal State Long Beach. The journalism program is great, our baseball team is ridiculously good, we party pretty hard. I couldn't be happier with the school I chose.
I didn't do all my college stuff in the traditional way, but it has ended up so well for me.
