Darren Aronofsky is gonna do such a cool job with Robocop. Hopefully the success of that lets him do more movies like The Fountain.

I'm very very very anxious to see where he goes with Robocop. He is by far my favorite director (with both The Fountain and Requiem... in my top 5) and a Robocop movie doesn't sound like Aranofsky at all.

You know what you mean. He is my 2nd favorite director. But at the same time I can see Aronofsky doing a really interesing take. I can kinda of see it, almost like a combination of Require and Batman Begins.

I just have a hard time seeing him making Robocop an intelligent, thinking man's movie full of great metaphors and subliminal messages

Hugh Jackman gave one of the best performances I've seen in a long time in the movie. I can understand how it might bore some people but I thought it was a brilliant movie.

Cliche, How so ? I thought it had a brilliant premise, examining life and death through 3 different time period focusing on 3 different versions of the same couple.

Um ... if you honestly think Hugh Jackman gave one of the best performances in cinema in a "long time" in that movie ... you should watch more movies. I can't help you there.

Because it defies the laws of physics. I love sci-fi - but attempting to qualify it with psedup-intellectual garbage is just stupid.

Believe it. The scene where Izzi dies and the end were amazing moments. and I see plenty movies thank you very much.

I assume you are referring to "future" where tom is in that bubble with the tree. I didn't take that aspect of the movie so literally. Though there are a lot of way to look at the Fountain.

Hugh Jackman plays Hugh Jackman. His character in Swordfish is no different than The Fountain.

And I like Hugh Jackman - but to say he's as good, or this movie is as good, as you are is crazy.

The Fountain never should have been made into a movie. It felt choppy and didn't make a lick of sense. Other directors/actors had been trying to make that movie for years, there's a reason why they didn't.

I would not say that. Would you say his character in Swordfish is the same as his character in The Prestige ? Besides, The 3 versions of Tom Creo were played each with a different tone.

Well that is just one of my personal favorite performances in the past few years.

What other directors have been trying to make it? Aronofsky wrote it... he put out a graphic novel before he made the movie. And maybe it didn't make sense because you didn't pay close enough attention?

Yes I would. And I like The Prestige. Just because I like a movie doesn't mean the actor in it is any good ... Hugh Jackman's not a very good actor at all.

Yeah, Aronofsky had been trying to make it or years. He had drastically revise the movie so it could be made.

My mistake, there were other actors have been attached, the studio shut it down, and then eventually re-lit it with a reduced budget.

And maybe it didn't make sense because you didn't pay close enough attention?
And this is the easily cop out excuse when arguing over a movie that doesn't make any sense. Add to that jumping between periods, ages, whatever ruined whatever flow the film could have had. And to top it off, it was a fucking boring.

The film aimed high and I respect it for that, but the execution was terrible.

Do you have the graphic novel? It's one I've been really wanting to pick up because I loved the movie and wonder what they would have done had they had the original budget.

the visuals in the fountain are amazing as is the soundtrack. i love how aronofsky didnt use any cg effects. gives the film such a deeper meaning to me with all the themes flying around and what its actually about. i dont care if you guys dont like it, but it is one of the most powerful movies ive seen. i can listen to the soundtrack on repeat and just watch the movie unplay as the soundtrack plays from beginning to end.

Well I saw The Fountain on acid, so the level at which it blew my mind is incomprehensible. I thought it made perfect sense. It all takes place in the present, the past is Izzy's story she wrote for him, the future is the ending of her story that he wrote for her. Pretty simple. The reason it doesn't flow well is because when transitioning between time periods, a distinctly different tone is used. In the past, we are getting the story from Izzy, who is artistic, open minded, and more of a fiction writer. The present is just Aronofsky's portrayal of the story, and the future is from the perspective of Hugh Jackman's character, a doctor who uses a lot of intellectual/university/medical jargon because that's how he knows to write.

God, I just wrote a brief synopsis haha
