Straylight Run (http://www.straylightrun.com) have a new song titled, Your Name Here, on the Victory Records' sampler being handed out at Warped Tour. Very good, very "chill" ... I'll try and convince the record label to let me post it, but no promises.

hopefully this version isn't the album version and just a demo version. i heard a live version of this song and it was much longer and had some "la di da"s or whatever. it sounds much better with the "la di da"s.
At the Scenecore.com booth at warped tour (we will only be at the nyc date aug 7) we have several hundred of the samplers that we're giving away. song isn't too bad.

Unfortunately, I think the la di da's are long gone. The first video was seven minutes and kicked ass, the new ams tour video was a little shorter and lacked the la di das, and now live and on this mp3 it ends after John plays the chorus by himself.
Personally I think the production on this blows. John's voice at the beginning is so protooled and it just kills it. Part of the appeal of John as a vocalist is the rough sounding voice that isn't the best, but fits well with the stuff he's done. The piano is too loud, the drums sound fake, at the beginning it sounds like a midi, the guitars are not as good sounding as on the demos. I'm just so disappointed because when put up against the six original demos, the live version of this song slays them. This recording, however, is easily the worst of the 7 studio songs we've heard. I hope it grows on me because it makes me really "scared" for how the rest of the album will sound. I sincerely hope they don't butcher Dignity and Money. It blows my mind that this band's DEMO could be perfectly recorded, while what is likely the first single from their FULL LENGTH ALBUM sounds like a home demo.

And also, is this the song originally titled 'Waiting For You'?

you gotta keep in mind surfwaxjoshow, they made the demo on their own and had no limits cuz they had no label. plus victory is really controling and makes the band do some some stuff. if this was recorded on their own again and not under victory, i bet it'd be better. thats just the way the world is.

yah, uh. the production sounds amazing, i don't know what you are smoking. the demos also, weren't home recordings, they were studio demos produced by sapone (not too shabby a producer), and i am also not so sure his voice was pro-tooled, i've heard him do things like this with his voice live. plus, i highly doubt this is the single and i highly doubt victory had much say in what went on with the album ... for certain reasons.

I know the demo was studio recorded. I personally think that those recordings sounded incredible as far as production quality went. Mistakes We Knew We Were Making...man that song is recorded flawlessly. This song just sounds too fake to me. I saw it performed live a month ago and it was beautiful; it was easily the best sounding song they played. I've been anticipating this recording since last september when I heard the uselessdivision boot for the first time. I'm sure this will grow on me, but I think it stands that there is just a little too much polish on this.
All I'm saying is I hope that the other songs sound better than this, I really don't want a silly detail such as recording quality ruin what could be my album of the year.

I totally agree, and yeah they are studio recordings, didnt you guys see the pictures, on the very first websites of the studio? His voice is definitly not pro-tooled, we're all just use to his raspy voice and him screaming. just wait till you hear the rest of the album then make your judgments

contract issues i do believe, might have something to do with john and shaun leaving tbs, and having a slightly different contract then the rest of the band, keep in mind that each band member has their own contract, and the most important one of all is the lead singers called "the key man clause" and if the lead singer decides to leave they can drop the band, but since john and shaun left tbs, they have a slightly different unusual contract that some how doesnt allow victory to do certain things...this is just a guess and info ive gathered..

i like it, but his voice sounds toyed around with too much and the snare drum sounds like hell. The best thing about this song is how I know all of the roads John is talking about because I live on Long Island...it's kind of weird/cool hearing roads i drive on every day in a song.
overall- 7.5 out of 10 (this is based on two listens)

Can we say it will be the themed slow song to all Senior Balls of 2005?? I think so. Great song his voice sounds pretty raw to me you can hear the reverb pretty well which is good. I can't wait for this album :lol2:

Dude, thanks for the inside commentary. I seriously come to this site to see posts like yours. I'm intrigued to hear how much they wrecked his voice. What's up with this post-Tell All Your Friends-extensive-pro-tooling? And yeah the six demos sound great. It'd be nice to hear them cleaned up a "wee" bit and perhaps arranged a bit differently, but only 'cause I've got the original six burned on a cd, and I'd like to hear what SR could do with it.

I'm thinking no, even though that would be pretty cool. I don't know any high school proms that have a dj cool enough to play this kind of music. If I had it my way, they would have played "For Me This Is Heaven" by Jimmy Eat World and "Existentialism on Prom Night" by some band we've been talking about...

Thanks, I wish more people would take note of opinions on the site. Even if you listen to the song and completely disagree with me, at least you looked at what I had to say without completely saying I'm wrong. I think a lot of people on this site (visitors and staff alike) need to learn the difference between fact and opinion. I'd much rather people read what others have to say and give real feedback on stuff than look at the replies and tell someone they are straight up wrong.
And on topic, it blows my mind that people are saying bad things about the Where You Want to Be production and are praising this.
Now that I re-read all that I really hope the personI quoted wasn't being sarcastic.
