View Full Version : Yankee Stadium Question

So my family decided a while back that we were going to vacation to NY this summer and being the huge baseball fan that I am, I decided I needed to get to Yankee Stadium while we're there. Problem was that they're out of town the whole week we're gonna be there. So i payed crazy money for a one hour tour of the stadium. Anyone here ever done this and could possibly give me some insight on what to expect? I also have a question about getting to the stadium... We're gonna drive up to Cooperstown and spend a day up there and then come back down and stay in Poughkeepsie (sp?) that night. The tour is at noon the next morning and seeing as I've never been to NY and have no idea what to expect, what would be a reasonable time to have to leave Pughkeepsie and catch the nearest subway to get to the stadium on time? Thanks for the time and help.

i went on a tour of the stadium last summer and it was awesome. they took us underneath the stadium, into the lockerroom, through the dugout and onto the field and eventually to the bullpen. youll have a great time

and poughkeepsie is about an hour and a half from the bronx, give or take. so i would leave by 10 at the latest to make sure youre there on time

I would leave around 9 just in case. You always should give yourself more than enough time just in case. Even if you get there early, you can hang out in the city before going to the Bronx for the tour.

Alright cool. Thanks a lot guys. I guess we'll probably just try and hit the north-most subway stop since we'll still have our rental car and then take the subway from there to the stadium. Any specific place/route I should be looking to take straight to the stadium? Sorry to ask so many questions... I just paid too much money for these suckers to miss the thing. That would probably be the biggest buzz kill of my life.

Cooperstown is a wonderful experience. Its a beautiful town with lots of good things to see besides the Hall of Fame.

SMB is lying. The bleachers at Yankee Stadium are filled with great people! They're totally fine with people wearing rival hats...

I hope you're kidding. There's nothing there besides baseball shops and the Hall of Fame.

biggest misconception of boston. unless you're obnoxious, everything's good natured.

i was at the sox-yankees game on sunday and there were 4 yankees fans all with matching jeter shirts flashing giants super bowl champs shirts whenever the sox would score. there were also a lot of beach balls flying around the stadium, so whenever anyone behind them would get one, they'd spike them into them. the yankees dudes took it well and it was pretty funny seeing them getting hit by one every few minutes.

There's a train in Poughkeepsie that goes into NYC. You might want to take that.

Ryan what game are you going to? I want to make sure I'm there so I can throw shit at you in your Angels gear. Haha.

And why are you staying in Poughkeepsie anyway? It's a shithole.

i went to boston on a vacation with my family in 1999. we went to a red sox/yankees game - not knowing any better i wore my yankees hat and a don mattingly t shirt. i was 13 years old - wasn't obnoxious at all, and 3 guys said to me "i'll slit your throat for wearing that shit around here".

i mean, a 13 year old kid on vacation with his family? come on, man.

In 1999 they were still hopeless losers.

Sweet. Thanks for the link. I think we're staying Poughkeepsie bc it's between Cooperstown, where we'll be spending that day, and NYC where we have tickets for the tour the next. Plus I think my Mom and Dad wanna see the FDR museum there or something.

I think I'm gonna wear some of my Royals stuff when we tour the stadium... that prolly won't be to big of problem considering the KC-NY rivalry has been dead since the 80s right? I might get a few laughs though...

Well since you won't be at a game and are just doing the tour, you should be fine. You'll get to see the new construction for the new stadium too. Which reminds me, I took some pictures the other day. I should put those up.

I went to a Sox/Yanks game at Fenway a few years ago and saw the drunkest Yankee fans ever. One of them stood up and poured an entire beer on the old lady in front of him. It goes both ways. Idiot fans are idiot fans.

Going to Doubleday Field is nice. But more specifically, Im thinking about the lake on the outskirts of the main roads, where people just chill out and play wiffleball.

My brother and I went to a Yanks/Sox game back in '03 and the Sox lost 1-0 or something. It was Suppan vs. Wells. we left the stadium after the game and some guy in a wheelchair was being obnoxious and yelled "It must suck being a Red Sox fan" at my brother. so he went up to him and said "you know what sucks? not being able to walk."

And not to pile on Yankee fans, after a Sox/Phillies game, their fans were talking shit after they had lost 7-1. Some guy actually knocked my dad's hat off his head. I had to physically restrain my brother from beating this guy to a pulp.

My dad got some hot dogs and an entire bag of peanuts thrown at him at Veterans Stadium during a Giants/Eagles game. My dad's 5'7, 250, and tough but very short. He's an easy target to throw shit at when he's at an opposing team's stadium rooting and wearing shit for the other team. And especially in Philly...you don't do that.

But people stopped throwing shit when they realized his best friend was with him at the game...because his friend Rob is 6'8, 350, with a caveman beard and forearms the size of a football.

My uncle is another idiot...he wore Jets shit (and his two friends too) to an Oakland Raiders game when they were playing each other two or three years ago. The idiot didn't even realize he was sitting only one section away from the Black Hole, aka the most dangerous set of sections in all of sports. You don't wear opposing teams' stuff anywhere near the Black Hole. They actually left the game with a few minutes left so they could get out alive because people were threatening to physically maim them.
