Alright well i wouldnt say that The Mars Volta are a punk band by anymeans but they are amazing and one of the most talented and unique bands i have ever heard. I recently joined this forum and saw little coverage of them so i was just wondering what you think of them.
If you have nothing to say about Mars Volta then what do you think about At The Drive-In or Sparta. I recently got the new Sparta cd (Porcelian) which is awsome. I also saw them live with Incubus and they were sick. But no one can compare to the almighty Incubus. So thoughts....

The Mars Volta are really good!!!!!!!.I bought De-loused in the comatorium about a year ago and i love it.The concept of the cd and its execution held me spell bound.Plus the fact that their music is so hard to put in a genre drew me right away.
My favourite song right now in the cd is( "Roulette Dares-The Haunt of")the last time i checked itunes told me i had listened to it 500 times. And the number keeps growing.............

The Mars Volta on record? awesome, DITC was handsdown the best album of 2003. A little too cryptic on the lyrics though.
Live? boring.
At The Drive-In - One of the greatest bands ever.
Sparta - Gets boring and old after some time.
The Mars Volta rang me up the other day. They said "Mumrah, can we PLEASE come round and learn how to write songs from you, PLEASE! We'll suck your cock!". And you know what I said? I said "Make mine a double."
I've got two cocks, you see.
So anyway, they did, and I enjoyed it, but instead of teaching them the finer points of songsmithery, I threw them in my moat and let my pet alligators eat them. All that remains of Messrs. Bixler and Rodriguez are two bushy afros, which I now use as pubic toupées for my freakish genitalia.
Anyway, the bottom line is this: The Mars Volta are superb, but so are Mumrah, in a very different way: see www.mumrah.com for further clues as to what I'm gabbering on about.

the mars volta evolved out of atdi. it seems like sparta is a step down from atdi. i saw sparta when they opened for incubus and it was the most boring spectacle ever. these guys have no energy on stage and the repetiveness of their songs make you want to sleep.

Volta is the best thing to happen to music in a few years.
Of course At the Drive-In I prefer but I think Volta will go far.

does anybody think the song "Achilles Last Stand" by led zeppelin sounds epic like a mars volta song? i think they have a lot in common. if you haven't heard it take a listen.

If only there were more bands like mars volta the world would be a better place. or at least the music industry would.
I prefer mars volta to At The Drive-In and Sparta.
Hang on, there ARE more bands like the Mars Volta.
MUMRAH, for example. They're like the Mars Volta in as far as they have elbows. And they ROCK your DAD off!

(Come on, I've been plugging this band like crazy...when is one of you fuckers going to follow the goddamn link?!! I might even consider stopping all this shameless pluggery if someone clicks on the link and proves that it's been worthwhile...emphasis on the 'might')

Here's a hint, stop plugging.
I'm most likely seeing Volta at the end of October. They're playing not too far from where I live. They're opening for the Pixies so it should be a pretty good show, of course I'm just going to see Volta, I've never gotten into the Pixies much but I can say I like what I've heard of them.
