k since the other villiage thread gives away the ending, im making a new one. i just saw this and i have to say, it is going on my top 3 worst movies EVER list. seriously, it was so not worth the $6.50, or the waste of two hours. I would rather have been sitting on my couch doing nothing. when I wasnt amused I was actually bored. i'm really curious, is there anyone that actually liked this film?

uh, so bad. and that was very dissapointed because i thought it was going to be this scary ass movie that i'd love but no. it was confusing, dumb, and not scary at all. but it was sad when that guy stavved that other guy. :(

It was pretty bad. I didn't like the ending, very lame. But it relates to today's society and sends somewhat of a political message. I must admit, he got me, but I was not happy with it.

When you're a director who is constantly hounded and expected to out wit your last supernatural thriller, i guess the best way is to make a movie like the Village. The only bad thing I have to say about the movie is that it could have been a million times better if it was more like it was in the trailer. But that doesn't mean the actual movie was bad. Good acting, good story, the one blind girl had a good performance.

The blind girl is Ron Howard's daughter.

It seems that people either love or hate this movie. I thought it was really good, although I knew going into it that it was going to be more of a character driven movie rather than a horror/suspense film.

I thought it was really good. It shows that you can't keep a society innocent no matter how hard you try. Evil will always find a way to show through, but good will find a way as well. Amazing acting, directing, and it made you think a little. Good flick!

I'd have to say it did catch me off guard more of a love story than scary..and the thing that sucks the most is I had to wait in line for a half an hour to get in.

ya me and my brothers didn't like it at all. we were guessing this was M. Night's way of having like...a social commentary about modern society...with recent things that's happened to me cause of society...I kinda wish I could live in a village for a bit. The ending was a bit predictable ya. I dunno...I still think The Hulk was much worse.

That movie was stupid. I saw it last night and I felt completely cheated after watching it. When I watched the trailer I was expecting to actually see a scary movie...couldn't that be considered false advertisement?? Well, I guess not but I was pissed that the trailer led you to believe it was going to be something other than what it was.

that movie sucked so much ass. it was hardly scary at all, boring and had the worse ending ever. i was expecting it to be really good, especially since the rest of his movies were good.

My girlfriend is suppose to be coming over tonight and we're gonna go see it, but I don't know if she still wants to, as we both been hearing really bad reviews.

i thought it was really good, though i did kinda know what was going on the whole time. i liked the love story aspect of the whole thing. did joaquin phoenix gain weight?
also, i though m. night shyamalan's cameo in the movie was quite clever.

K....the ending is horrible. One of my friends we went to see it with the night it came out was joking around and said the ending and he was like wouldnt that be funny if that was it....and we were like hahahaha yeah..and then it WAS the ending and it wasnt funny it was garbage...the worst movie hes ever written even worse than stewart little (yes he did write stewart little)

The movie wasn't bad at all.
M. Night has never made a "scary" movie. They always have points to them and make you think.

oh this movie made me think alright...made me think how stupid people can be..and how horrible movies can be.

When I was watching it, I was really enjoying it a lot, and I was thinking it was extremely great and engaging. Then the ending comes along and splatters GAY over the whole entire movie, ruining what had minutes before been an excellent movie. DON'T GO SEE IT!

That's EXACTLY how I felt..I really really liked it while it was going on because it had my attention..but the ending just fucking SUCKED! It ended so abruptly..and my only thoughts were "That's it?"

Ok, heres my thoughts on this movie...
first of all, it was based off a book that i read back in middle school. My friend told me that after i started saying how much of a rip off the story was....but i guess M. Night shamalan or whatever was just told to rework the story to make a summer block buster. I give him props for putting a fast one over everybody this summer though...admit it....we were all going to see a scary monster movie, expecting some trippy ending. Well, we got the trippy ending! The only thing that pissed me off was how the set up this entire thing with the girl being able to see that one guy in the dark as a special color (which was obviously yellow) But all it was is a setup....it didn't all work out like his other movies where the entire thing was a setup to the ending in some crazy way.....

damn, i'm really confused over why he did this...

i thought it was a pretty good, i think that people are now expecting something twisted in his movies and that takes away from it.

Here is the number one flaw with the movie. I'll try to be vague for those who haven't seen it.

The resolution of the movie was you-know-who acquiring the you-know-what. Well this resolution resolved an issue that wasn't even a part of the plot until well into the rising action of the film (being you-know-who getting you-know-whatted by you-know-who). So in the end, it leaves an empty feeling like the plot never really accomplished anything. And all the characters ended up in exactly the same position that they were in the beginning of the story. What a useless movie.

Nah, the number one flaw in this movie was its marketing. The reason so many people don't like it is because the previews are making it out to be a horror movie, and it's not. They're attracting the wrong crowd, and people are going in looking for a scare, but Shymalan excels in storytelling, not scares.

Also, since it's Shymalan, everyone is expecting the twist and not just watching the movie and letting it come to them. Don't think, just watch.

M. Night Shyamlan is my favorite filmmaker. He is a genius and the film is so good. I've seen it twice, and the second time I will say it doesnt hold up like his previous efforts and Unbreakable is still my favorite, but this rivals Signs as like number three on his film lists.

it's not a horror film or a thriller really and I wish people would know that before going in. But if you think about the twist, its just so awesome.

It gives me the chills. I got the film score in the mail yesterday from these media promoters. It's so amazing.

I loved the film.

I thought about the ending and how I would write it and I came up with the major twist myself.

But I didn't come into this film saying that if the ending wasnt a twist enough or if it wasnt a thriller/horror film, I was going to hate it.

I really hate all the people who complain that it wasnt a thriller or horror film when it wasn't meant to be one.

I totally agreed. It sucked! I mean the plot was unique and something different from normal movies, but I lost all my interest after the first 20 minutes. I was expecting to be scared shitless, but, lets just say, that was FAR from the case. The only part that made me jumped was when that chic feel in the whole. Very, very disappointing. :( :(

fell in the hole*

I am disappointed in the way it was marketed. It was marketed as something real scary but it was a romance/drama film.

Don't worry Shyamalan, people still support your films...just not in full force like with Signs...

This was the most disappointing movie I've seen all year...

M. Night (I'm not even going to attempt spelling his last name)...started off his commercial carrer well with "the sixth sense"...after seeing that, I saw "unbreakable" -- which I thought was actually better than the sixth sense --

Then Signs came out, and it was a major let down. I didn't hate it, but from a director that puts out two great films back to back (i'd expect nothing less)...

When the village came out, I was looking so forward to it, expecting it to be much better than signs...I saw it opening day, and over two hours later, I realized I had just wasted 2 hours of my life, and $6

He's become so commercial, that he can be a lazy writer (like he was in The village) and still slap his name on the movie and everyone will go see it.

NEXT TIME I WON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!!

It's only a "bad" film because so many people are pre-occupied with the entire twist ending idea that they are thinking and thinking what it could be for the entire first and second act of the film, that when it takes a step back and turns into what it really is, a drama/romance film, it's considered "boring".

I hope he pulls out a sequel to UNBREAKABLE.

Yea...I'm gonna have to agree with everything you've said on this subject. If you didn't like the movie, fine. But don't hate it because it wasn't "scary" or didn't have the ending that you wanted. I thought that the ending was actually really interesting. I dunno, maybe I'm just not that clever that I didn't really see it coming, but I thought it was creative and it was a good commentary on the shitty state of the real world today. The past was a much simpler time when community was more important, as was family. I agree that the marketing was kind of shitty, but what was he supposed to do? He couldn't give away the story in the previews. I say before you judge this movie, you need to pull back from your idea of this movie needing to be "scary." Then decide.
