Don't let your feelings on Sandler's old works stop you from seeing Reign Over Me. It is truly a great film, and far from anything he has every done before. I highly recommend it.

The only one of those I've even seen is Stranger Than Fiction. I've never heard of Reign Over Me, and I've managed to avoid Eternal Sunshine all these years because I absolutely hate Jim Carey and the hype was so ridiculous for that movie.

But how about Robin Williams? He started as a comedy actor and did some amazing dramatic work... Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, Good Will Hunting, etc. And you could almost categorize Bill Murray as a dramatic actor these days, his humor is so subtle and restrained and his characters are always deeply troubled emotional wrecks.

I chose Carey. Even though I like Ferrell better and I thought his performance in STF was good, I didn't care for the movie very much so it kinda ruined the performance for me. After his Zohan movie, I've given up completely on Sandler. I've never thought he was quite on the level of Ferrell and Carey though

Carey was also good in The Number 23 as well as The Truman Show.

Ahhhhhhhhh, Jim Carrey for sure! I haven't seen ES, but I have seen The Number 23 and it's incredible. One of my all time favorite movies. But I loved Stranger Than Fiction, so Will would be my second choice. Never watched Reign Over Me, and even though I feel Adam Sandler could do serious roles, I just don't think he could do them as well as the previous two.

Jim Carey is far under rated as a serious dramatic actor. He was amazing in Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine. How he didn't get an oscar nod and Winslett did is beyond me.
