Yes, I know they sound quite different, but they seem to be the most popular bands in this genre of pop-punk.
I personally think SYG is a better band, but that's me.

This is SUCH a tough poll. I went with Four Year Strong because I think overall they're a more talented band. Set Your Goals are so good too though, fuck can I choose both?

I really enjoy Set Your Goals.
...Four Year Strong seems like a band that I would have loved in the 8th grade.

SYG SYG SYG SYG SYG SYG SYG SYG!!!! Hands down. FYS is OK, but in my opinion no where near the level that set your goals is at. Set your goals displays a much more fast punk rock in your face feel, where as four year strong has keyboard. Both obviously have positive hardcore roots, but set your goals for me really set the bar in this category. Set your goals in one of the only newer bands I like these days, and I cannot wait till there next album come out!

i think four year strong is growing to be one of the next popular pop-punk bands out there. they get my vote but if you go by sound i think they're actually kind of close, i just think fys is amazing.

Wow dead even
I chose set your goals because I feel like their upcoming work is gonna be unreal. Both have great albums and great live shows so its a rough choice.

Do they really sound quite different? I dunno, I just remember thinking "wow, this sounds like set your goals with synth" when rise or die trying came out. Both are high energy pop-punk w/ breakdowns. The dual vocal contrasts are similar, etc.

i love both, but i'm gonna go with Set Your Goals, they're one of the bands that got me excited about punk stuff again, I was blown away by Echoes, that song is gonna make some kid wanna start a band if it already hasn't, the kind of effect that somthing like Linoleum from Nofx or anything from Dude Ranch had on me back in the day
DA DADA DADA DADA DADA DADA DADADADADA!!!
that part is so amazing

4ys, odd comparison tho
just-in.

my two favorite bands.
I went with SYG though, cause The Fallen is a masterpiece.
and, in my opinion, SYG are a better live band.
I've seen them both before, but too far apart in time to make a good comparison.
however, I'm seeing them both tomorrow though, so maybe I'll change my mind.

Four Year Strong for me. I love SYG, but Four Year Strong just takes it. I've seen them both live and FYS is, only slightly, but a hair about SYG in the live department. And beyond that, SYG never wrote Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die. I rest my case.

I'll keep trying to give Set Your Goals new chances...but I don't "get it" yet.

i'll say this much about Four Year Strong, they're probably the closest thing at the moment that's the missing link between death metal and top 40 pop music lol, which is very cool, I always knew that blast beats could be used in a catchy/poppy setting and i'm glad to see someone doing it.

I thought Set Your Goals' album was amazing. The way they put it together with the interludes was really awesome. I don't know what you guys are talking about above...
I love them both like crazy.
But FYS came first for me, and SYG has more of a punk feel than a pop-punk feel. I just love FYS.
They're both amazing in my opinion though

Its easy to enjoy every song on RODT because it's the same fucking song 11x.
At least SYG can write a different kind of song. Fucking christ.

My best friend would kill me if I didn't say Four Year Strong.
They're not really my style but I do have their album (got it free on here) and they were fun live and I met the dudes a few times at Bamboozle and they were pretty cool.

Gahhh!! this is a very tough poll, I love them both and think they are both great! I saw FYS at warped and they were really good, I didnt catch SYG even though I wanted to but I had to see Say Anything. I chose FYS but by a slim margin

Ive been listening to SYG for awhile now and just recently got into FYS. In terms of live performances both bands tear it up. In terms of music both have me singing along and the breakdowns make me wanna punch my neighbor in the face.
Imma go with SYG simply because ive seen them play for 20 people. Ive seen them play in front of a sold out show. The energy was the same, through the roof.
I just wish SYG was on the easycore tour, then you could kill me after that tour and i would die a happy man

I love both bands but there is just something about FYS that puts them just ahead of SYG.

I need to wait for another FYS release before I answer this to see how much their sound differs and if it's in a good way or not.
