View Full Version : Four Year Strong woes(and general local bands)

pcyph
07/31/08, 03:02 PM
I remember a time when I could see FYS all the time, they played shows in Mass, the Mass-hats went out, and well all rejoiced at the awesome that was Four Year Strong. Now they're on tour every FUCKING day, they last time they played in Mass(aside from their video shoot)to the best of my knowledge was April fucking NINETEENTH. Why? Why must my favorite local bands explode and tour in Europe and Australia? I won't be able to see them live until September, and seriously FYS shows are some of my favorites.

Any one have comments/stories much like this one?

I saw that show. they were great. bro-core dudes got them confused for a hardcore band though.

I wonder how long it takes until the Appreciation Post break out?

for the record, the FYS show in Sydney at the Manning Bar went off bigtime, I can see why the local shows in MASS would be incredible.

beardcore at its finest.

you should get into music that doesn't completely blow then, since i can't think of how a FYS show could be at all entertaining.

or, you could just stop making posts to brag about the fact that you saw FYS before they were cool.

seriously, this thread is basically being like "look at me look at me"

it'd be like if i started a thread "man don't you hate it when bands offer you coke?" and then have the post saying "yeah i was playing a show with band X and afterwards they were like hey do you want some cocaine, but i turned them down"

i mean yeah, i've been offered blow by a band a lot of people here think are cool, but i'm not going to name drop them just to get a sweet brag in.

That was 100% my motive for making this post. You are the alltime winrar of the internets sir.

I go to plenty of fucking awesome shows, but Four Year Strong happens to put on one of the best and most energetic live shows I've ever been to, so sorry if your unable to see that.

If you didn't catch the sarcasm if my first statment, my actual motive was to discuss a common occurence in the world of music, where a local band blows up and it's local fans lose the large amount of shows that band plays in the area. So how's about you stop being a dick and discuss that, or get the fuck out?

Your right, my music blows. I should get into a borderline gay obsession with a bass player that plays root notes in a terrible band and brag about touching his pants like anyone cares.

i wasn't there but from what i heard, some douchebag crowd surfer ended up kicking her in the face. that coupled with how hot the the venue was caused her to pass out. This was on a really early FOB tour, so the band felt bad and let her back stage. the pants were ones pete was wearing because they were selling them as merch and as a joke, he gave them to her since he wasn't really ever planning on wearing them again because they were awful looking. they were like, shorts or something.

god i can't believe i explained that. haha

i dont really dig the local scene where i live. its a bunch of 15-17 year old metal bands who cake on the beaten to death chug chug rhythms with an acne ridden young man wearing his ladies pants screaming like his lady into the microphone. the older scene is nothing but rock bands that are trying to be the next seether and then the select group of bodacious dudes who are new york style hardcore which is old and played out especially when they talk about how fucking hardcore they are because they wear a camo tank and yellow basketball shorts.

Bands that are good here:

Shit, dude.
Gwen Stacy.

I’ve got to say that I’ve seen Gwen Stacy over 50 times. The first time I saw them play was at the Greenfield Boys & Girls Club (in Indiana) when I was a sophomore, and it cost $4 and a canned good to get in. They played with a bunch of locals and Saints Never Surrender. From the minute they started playing, I was floored. I had never heard anything like them before in my life, and it amazed me that they were from Indianapolis. I managed to scrape up seven dollars in change and bought their self released EP “…I Believe In Humanity.” Over the next few months, my friends and I went and saw them play every weekend. My friends and I knew all the words to their CD and loved them dearly. I sat back and watched them grow. I saw them and the Devil Wears Prada for free at a church in Mt. Comfort (also in Indiana) about two years ago. Soon, they were always on tour, and I rarely got to see them. I saw them play with bands like Blessed By A Broken Heart, Emmure, A Day To Remember, Calico System, Fight Paris, My Children My Bride, Once Nothing, and many others. Soon, they were signed to Ferret Music, and now they are nationally known.

And they recently kicked their old singer out and their new singer sucks and the band sucks now.
Hahahahaha.

I really wish that they would have stayed with their old style and old singer and everything.
As I grow to lose interest in them, they tend to gain popularity.

I used to see FYS all the time too. Way back when "It's Our Time" came out. What amazes me about them is that they've ALWAYS been able to move a crowd. Even if it was 10 people, there'd be some jumping or dancing.

There's a few MA bands I would love (or sadly "would have loved") to see break big. Namely Therefore I Am, Francine...and her ruby slippers, Electric Snake 3000, and The Appreciation Post. I was never really a fan of A Loss For Words or The Cadence.

that sounds awesome. it was great when they were more of a pop-punk band but they went the way of brand new and grew as musicians. who does that, seriously? ;-)
i love how we keep asking for them to play 93002 or Sweet Forever and whenever they do play it its always for the last time. i remember both of those songs being retired at least twice a piece.
even their 'ambient' songs are awesome though. wont be surprised to see them signed after their full-length comes out

I know, I know. They just don't seem to be apart of the same trend other FBR bands are apart of. I guess FBR is covering all the bases. Good looking out, guys!

Actually Set Your Goals is Four Year Strong without a keyboard,

if you want to get into who was who and formed first.

By the way, I still don't understand this "namedrop" concept, their still a relatively small band and the basis of naming said band was because people know how spectacular their live shows are. I'm not going to be sad if Dragonforce doesn't play near here cause they suck and they suck live.

Thanks for continually bashing me throughout the thread even though I tried to give up arguing though, I hope you accomplish whatever your trying to do, whether it's make yourself feel better or fill that empty void in your life. Seriously man, thread-bashing for 2 days is cruise-control for cool.

This is not why people do this. You're dumb.
