This is one of my favorite books, but I just don't feel like this movie is going to play up to it.
I don't think Michael Cera was the right choice to play Nick at all, and also Nick asks Norah to be his girlfriend, not the other way around.

Michael Cera is the it boy right now apparently cause he's awkward and charming. I haven't read the books but i heard they were supposed to be punk kids, not indie kids :|

He may be the it boy or whatever, but he's still totally off base to play this part.
Yeah, they're supposed to be punk kids or something like that, he's supposed to be the only straight kid in a queer band, and I don't think he can pull off the part, he seems too innocent in a way.

There were some really hilarious parts, but I don't want to give anything away. Just go see it when it comes out. Definitely my favorite out of all the movies Michael Cera's been in.

Oh, and to whoever was wondering if he could pull off being the only straight kid in a queer band, he does it perfectly.

I loved this movie. I wasn't expecting it to suck but I certainly wasn't expecting what I got. The music is by far the best part, it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Kat Dennings and Michael Cera have great characters, with Norah trying to get Nick to notice her and Nick trying to get over his ex-girlfriend. The best scene in the movie is between Nick and his ex and when you see it you'll know it, it features "Little Motel" by Modest Mouse.

Great, great movie, definitely one of the best I've seen this year.

Thats pretty lame. This is what I immediatley thought when I saw the trailer. He also played the same role in Arrested Development. I really like him as an actor but he REALLY needs to branch out. I would love to see him as asshole character like Seth from Superbad. Did you like the movie?

It's getting kind of annoying seeing people say this. It's called a target audience. Lots of movies have them. Movies like There Will Be Blood target the older Oscar oriented crowd, and movies like Beverly Hills Chihuahua are targeted at kids. This happens to be aimed at teens. I really don't see what the big deal is.

is this any good?

it looked kinda cliche and like it would annoy me like juno did.

I thought that it was lame. It worth watching once, sort of. Pretty predictably in everyway. I'll probably never watch it again even though I own it. (I bought it for my gf)

This movie wasn't the greatest movie i've ever seen... I was excited to see it so a bunch of
friends and i rented it. It was predictable and left you feeling empty because of all of the questions
at the end of the movie.
Exp:
the gum?
what happened to the recording in the studio?
towards the end of the movie, the drunk friend all of a sudden became
super sober?

Good music......bbuuttttt not worth watching again.

I agree with the person who is posting directly above me ^^^. It wasn't a BAD movie, but the commercials and box office success that it had made me think it was going to be a lot better. I have a lot of friends who "loved it." It's definitely better than Juno, but it's not hard to beat Juno. There are just too many things left unsaid and it all felt rushed. Not terrible, but not great.

Its okay, but like everybody else is saying, not terrible. I'd say it's worth a rent.

Such a weak movie. It was especially annoying because I could SEE the seeds of a good movie in there somewhere, but it was mostly just boring. It wasn't particularly funny, and the dramatic parts didn't really have any weight to them.

I thought it was cute, not the best movie I've seen but definitely worth a watch or two. Plus the soundtrack was sweet.

I was just talking to my friend about this movie tonight. I've had a hard time putting my finger on what it was that bothered me about the movie, because as someone above noted, you can see the seeds of a good movie. The best way to describe what I think the main problem with the movie is by comparing it to Adventureland, a movie that successfully portrayed a lot of what I had been hoping to see in Nick and Nora (indie rock, vinyl records, mixtapes, ect.)

I've come to the conclusion that Adventureland succeeds because it is a movie about 20 somethings who listen to indie rock in 1987, written and directed by a man who, in 1987 actually was a 20 something kid who listened to indie rock.

On the other hand, Nick and Nora is a movie about 18 year old kids who listen to indie rock in 2008, written and directed by people who have never had the experience of 18 year old kids who listen to indie rock in 2008, and as a result, the movie feels disingenous. The filmmakers may have had the best of intentions when they created this movie, but for me, it just didnt work.

While Adventureland didn't suck, in no way did it succeed. It was not nearly as good as it shouldve been and lacked everything a good movie needs. The characters weren't developed well and the storyline was nothing to write home about. Atleast that's my feelings about it. If you haven't seen it I'd say just wait to rent it.

I totally disagree. I loved Adventureland, but there are people in this thread who loved Nick and Nora. Everyone has different things they want in a movie, and Adventureland was almost exactly the movie I hoped it would be.

Don't get all the hate for this flick. It certainly wasn't great, but it was fun. A hipster After Hours for a modern crowd. Maybe I just have a soft spot for these "it all happens in one crazy night" sort of flicks.

My issue with the flick is the age of the kids versus their actions. High school kids? Seriously? A bit hard to swallow. All they needed to do was make them college-aged and replace the stereotypical bitchy cheerleader broad with a stereotypical hipster queen or a stereotypical sorority broad and the movie would have been infinitely more enjoyable.

That being said? Solid flick. And I'm a total sucker for those "it all happens in one crazy night/boy meets girl and fondles her in a famous recording studio" movies. Own it, watch it a decent amount, but mostly just when I'm feeling sappy. Hah!
