There is a lot of great pop-punk out there, just not too recent, because there are only a few bands doing pop-punk the right way here and now.

Pop punk is my favorite genre, but it's realllyy getting over saturated with "hot" emo bands. My biggest pet peeve is that all these bands lead singers sound the exact same. The lead singers voice in these bands can make or break them for me. That being said it's still my favorite genre and there are some absolutely amazing pop-punk bands that I couldn't live without: FOB (especially TTTYG), New Found Glory, blink-182, Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin, Relient K etc. So I wouldn't say I am getting tired of pop-punk, I am just getting tired of the generic bands that are more pop than punk. Every once in a while there is a new band that does it right though.

When I hear the words "pop-punk" now I think of All Time Low. I like a few of ATL's songs, but so many other bands, such as Boys Like Girls and We The Kings, sound too similar to me.
I think original pop-punk is like Green Day and New Found Glory, but I don't know much about the history...
Cartel (http://www.myspace.com/cartel)'s "Chroma" really stands out to me though. :)
I love Eye Alaska (http://www.myspace.com/eyealaska). They aren't afraid to think outside the genre.

Most "modern rock" bands-if thats what your looking for- are too commercialized now-a-days. Actually now that I think about it, every genre have bands that are too commercialized and that sound all the same. Payola anyone?

Pop punk is dead.
The only three decent pop punk bands left, SoCo/Jack's Mannequin, Say Anything and Brand New, don't even make pop punk anymore. Everything else is either once solid bands living off music they made almost a decade ago (Less Than Jake, Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory, Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line) or this terrible new wave of image friendly pop punk bands (Boys Like Girls, Cartel, All Time Low) and then there's also the just plain generic bands pluggin away before they get 9 to 5's when the major label move doesn't work out (Anberlin, Mae, Armor For Sleep). There's also the pop punk which has actual punk in it but the threadstarter didn't mean that kind and I know nothing about it anyway.
Not sure why people don't understand this or why they are surprised the stuff now isn't good.
I think it's too broad of a spectrum, let's make a list of what kinds.
BubbleGum Pop-Punk: Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, Cartel, The Maine etc etc ambiguously gay dudes.
Good Pop-punk : Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory, Brand New, Say Anything, Taking Back Sunday etc etc good music.
Oh wait, this isn't that broad at all.
My bad.

i've never ever understood the association between jimmy eat world & any form of the word "punk". not hating on the band in any way, just saying... perhaps i'm not getting something?
Well, "Bleed American" "Sweetness" "A Praise Chorus" "The Middle" "Kill" "Pain" and many more songs clearly have a punk influence.
Any other questions?
Under no circumstances are Brand New a pop punk band anymore.
I'll agree here, TDAGARIM isn't pop-punk in the slightest but it's still a fantastic album.

i wasn't really hitting you up mate, just a question in general. but since you responded....how? i've heard all those tunes. to me they're just a pop band. maybe even pop-rock, but punk? i could be way off here, but i've just never heard any element of the bands very accessible, often over-polished, radio friendly, sound that has anything remotely "punk"? again, not hating, don't mind clarity & a the odd song from various other albums. just an odd relationship
There's a difference between punk-influenced and punk.
Ok, then all those songs clearly have a pop-punk sound.........
and to answer the Pop-Rock thingy, I would think the whole of the faster songs on "Bleed American" are more pop-punk, but their newer stuff is pop-rock.
