yeah i dont know why i do it.... i've done it since i was a little kid and its gotten worse with age...... i actually slowed down when i had braces and they got better but it was only cuz i couldnt bite them with the braces on.... now they're worse than ever.......

Maybe a doctor could help you. You never know, it seems like it's compulsive behavior so maybe they'd know what to do. Braces made me stop too and it was horrible.

I used to bite mine to nubs, I stopped because I heard biting really hurts your teeth and you can seriously chip or fuck them up. I still bite if I'm really stressed or really really tired. I fixed it by carrying a nail file with me EVERYWHERE. I wouldn't leave the house without one. when you get the urge to bite, break out the file. If you've subconsciously started to bite, file the nail down to it's smooth. it really helps because they're nowhere to get a 'grip' on to bite.

Once my nails started growing back I used sally hansen Maximum growth every night. it makes them grow and makes them pretty strong, so even if you get the temptation to bite you either can't or they'll start to look so nice that you won't want to. It also helps because the nail polish comes off pretty easily once you've got two or three coats on there so instead of biting I'll pick at the polish. I know it's basically switching one vice for another but at least you won't get ingrown nails this way

As far as maybe helping them look nicer again, take biotin. its a vitamin that makes your hair and nails grow. Sounds to me like you should see a doctor, it sounds borderline OCD.
