The Format (http://www.theformat.com)
I got their album, mark my words, around 9 hours ago, and I think it's been on repeat about ten or eleven times since then. Within the next few days, I seriously see this band becoming my new favorite. For the longest time I'd heard nothing but good things about this band, but never put the effort into finding their album. I now feel as if I've wasted my life up to this point. When the songs aren't so fun that they're making you dance uncontrollably (e.g. "Tune Out" and "Tie the Rope") they're so powerful and emotional that they make you you want to do better things with you life (e.g. "On Your Porch"). Please don't be a fool, like me. Get into this band now! Quickly!

Motion City Soundtrack (http://www.motioncitysoundtrack.com)
My current favorite band (they might be usurped by the Format soon, but they're not going without a fight). If you don't listen to them, you are plotting a course to your own destruction. Find a copy of I Am the Movie right now and listen to it over and over or I will kill you.

Rise Against (http://www.riseagainst.com)
I wasn't really into them before I signed up for the interview, but after doing my research in preparation, I've really gotten into their past two releases. If you're into "punk" at all, listen to these dudes. Hell, you probably already do. I seriously think I'm like four or five years behind the times on this one.

Rushmore Academy (http://www.stlpunk.com/b1.asp?bandID=294)
The only local band from my area that I think has any real potential at all. It's good old fashioned pop punk with a synth twist and some unbelievably catchy choruses. Great song structure, strong vocals, and hugely interesting breakdowns and melodies are what make this band great in my eyes. They might not be breaking any new ground, but they're building an empire on their old turf.

Phantom Planet (http://www.stlpunk.com/b1.asp?bandID=294)
Still, without a doubt, their s/t album is my favorite thing out this year. Like most people, I wasn't feeling it at first, but the more I listen, the further in love I fall. There's so much to listen to, here. Every run through you'll discover a new harmony, or some new organ melody that you hadn't heard before. Really, really great album, that's all there is to it. Go buy it and if you already have, then dig it up and give it a few more shots.

Wester - great band, very young kids. I saw them a month or two ago with Name taken, bear vs. Shark, and Gatsby's american Dream and they completely stole the show. - http://westermusic.com/ Check out the Heart Attack Ep or their new stuff

Facing New York / Amity split, this cd comes out august 31(if im not mistaken) and I heard it and I absolutely love it. [http://www.Topnotchrec.com]

Park - This band is so underrated it makes me cry at night, Bald people truely make the best music. Go buy "It wont snow where you are going" and you wont be dissappointed. Check out there interview at http://www.punkrocks.net (the singer talks about slapping Ryan Key of yellowcard, and its one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Stuff to check out:

<b>The Silence- Audio Alchemy</b>: the whole goddamned things up for download on their Purevolume page, so thus, you have to reason not to have a listen.

<b>The Arrogants-Your Simple Beauty E.P./Nobody's Cool E.P.</b>: Pretty much sounds like Death Cab with female fronted vocals. You can get both these E.P.s off their website.

<b>Rise Against- Siren Song of the Counterculture</b>- Just plain fucking awesome. Plus they have a great live show..

I happen to really like The Format, Rise Against, MCS, and Phantom Planet so I think you're right on about those bands.

But saying that about Rushmore Academy? The only local band that has any real potential at all? All that proves is that you don't have any handle on the St. Louis music scene. I'm not going to sit there and say that somebody like Sophomore is going to go anywhere, and St. Louis is definetely not overflowing with great bands, but there are a few really worthwhile ones in this town if you actually look for them.

Jamison, I only have one recommendation for you. That would be the self-titled album by Criteria en Garde. This is by far my favorite band hailing from Omaha. The album is so good because it's merely a combination of raw emotions and minimalistic guitar work, with persistent drumming to round it all out. I swear this is one of very few cd's that I couldn't live without.

i've been listening to a lot of old throwing the game lucky boys confusion a lot, not the rap/raggae tunes from it but more of the rock filled tunes like breaking rules, fredastaire, bossman, killians, dumb popsong, sat. nite, and most importantly, slip, great song....otherwise if u aint to busy check out gametime as well, theyre new song, off the hizzle is pretty rad and im sure as everyone knows, the new tbs cd

the format and say anything are two of the most overrated bands ever. i recommend the best of the smiths and jackson browne, freddie mcgregor, john brown's body, the band, fairweather's "if they move...kill them"

Set Your Goals (http://twelve0four.net/syg/index.html) - A great band from San Francisco, CA. Influenced by Lifetime, Civ, Kid Dynamite, Reach The Sky, The Movielife, H2O, Strike Anywhere, New Found Glory, and Saves The Day circa "Can't Slow Down". Listen to their songs at www.hxcmp3.com (http://www.hxcmp3.com/bands/10051).
