Just got back from the sold out show and I have to say it was an awesome all around show.
New York natives Oxford Collapse (A Pitchfork Media favorite) opened the show showcasing tunes from their new cd entitled Bits which comes out on Tuesday. They played a solid 40 min set mixing in songs from Remember the Night Parties and Some Wilderness. They had a ton of energy and could tell that they were happy to be up there. I talked to the lead singer Michael at the merch booth and he said he couldn't be happier with the new album. I'm not extremely familar with their songs but I know they ended with Please Visit Your National Parks.
Then We Are Scientists took the stage. I've been a huge fan ever since Safety, Fun, and Learning came out. Their sound has grown from punk/pop of With Love and Squalor to a fuller more mature sound in Brain Thrust Mastery. I wasn't sure how some of the newer songs would sound live but they did a excellent job adding a second guitarest/keyboard player. The new member also helped add a little more to the With Love and Squalor songs. As a live band WAS are great. Their bantering between songs is second to none, much like Oxford you could tell they just loved being onstage. For some reason a reoccuring joke throughout the night was bashing The Killers, not sure why.
Set List (Not 100%)
Ghouls
Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt
Chick Lit
Scene Is Dead -->
Inaction
Cash Cow --->
Callbacks
Impatient -->
Lets See It
Can't Lose
Altered Beasts
Thats What Counts
After Hours (Keith's A string broke so he had to improvise)
Textbooks (Keith came into the crowd and sang with them)
Tonight
Dinosaurs
It's A Hit
Encore:
Lethal Enforcer
Great Escape
Great all around show. If you can ever see either of these two New York bands I suggest it.
