supposedly it is because the other bandmates don't "feel comfortable" with him on stage because they are afraid he will mess up. and also because he won't use a click track. also, MCR already had another drummer lined up and they've been planning this for a few months now.
this is just what i've heard so don't take this as facts.
i hope this isn't true because he was a good drummer and it doesn't seem quite right to kick this guy out with such short notice. oh well...i guess we'll just have to wait for an official statement.

i fucking hate click tracks. A good drummer shouldn't need to play to one and it I feel it takes away from the rawness of some songs. I think a drummer should always have a little space to breath when it comes to tempo, especially live.

This is what Matt had to say on their message board (http://mychem.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=MCR&action=display&num=1092302546) :
Hey guys its me Matt, im on rachel's screen name. I just wanna clear some things up with you all. I'm not looking for pity, im not looking for the band to bring me back becuase i dont think i could even play with them again for a million reasons. I just wanna say my side of the story,to you all personally before brian puts a post up sugarcoating or making light of what actually went down. Wheather or not you believe me is up to you. I got home 2 days ago from the most exciting 2 shows weve played in a while in japan, we all had an amazing time there. I get home the next day brian has a BIG BAND meeting i have to be there. I finally meet up for this band meeting, He was supposed to pick me up. Instead it was Ray and brian alone infront of my house . They told me to take a walk, and told me im out of the band becuase, "they are uncomfortable with me on stage they afraid ill mess up" ive had some whoppers on a few occasions ill never deny that im human we all make mistakes. Their other reasoning was i never wanted to use the click track (a device to help me play in perfect time). The only reason i never wanted to is becuase i truely believe no show should be perfect. If someone wanted a perfect show they'd listen to the cd. They said they've been planning this for a 2-3 months. They already have another drummer lined up. They never acted or implied that this was the plan in those 2 to 3 months. Just acted like they were my brothers. I still havent even heard from gerard since I saw him at the airport. I never got a band meeting to discuss this, just the boot for messing up.
Do i think ive been shafted? yeah. What i want to know though is what happened to the 5 brothers that loved eachother more then anyone else on earth, that noONE would come in between. I loved those brothers with all my heart, i would have gone down in a plain crash, taken the bullet for any of them. I gave up everything for each one of them. This is the thanx i get. Someone please tell me what happened to my best friends. Because they are lost.

wtf are you talking about??? playing to a click track is extremely difficult. it's NOT something any drummer can just start playing to it, it takes timing/skill.. a click track gurantees that you're always on time and are playing the parts in tempo.. if your song is out of tempo at random parts, it sounds fucked up... why do you think they only use click tracks w/professional recordings??? No one's expecting him to put on headphones during a live show and have a click in the back, but the most successful live bands practice with a click. It makes you SO much tighter as a band its rediculous. We kicked our old drummer out cuz he coudlnt' do it at all (that and he wouldnt move down south), and once our new drummer got used to play it during practices, not only was his timing perfect (thats what drums are all about), but we could literally stop anytime during the song & all cut in back on the time beat because of it. if matt couldn't play to a click, it musta made recording a HELL of a lot harder, and sound more out of tempo..
ask ANY professional producer/drummer and they'll tell you that playing (rather practicing) with a click is fucking key... as a drummer, i thought you would have understood that (no offense)

Its about 50/50 nowadays. Bands like Glassjaw, Thursday, Jenoah and Further seems forever do not play to click tracks bc their songs change time signatures and tempos. My taste in music does not permit click tracks, I prefer weird timing and changed signatures in songs, I don't like when something is too perfect, and I enjoy it when a song will slow up and up speed up into a different tempo. A drumemr should be their own click track and if you can't keep a steady beat and HAVE TO depend on a machine to do it for you, than something is wrong. Listen too Thursday's for the workforce drowning (at 1:54) and tell me that tempo change doesnt sound incredible. Listen too Thrusday's "Wind-up" from the intro to verse and you'll see that click tracks enable you to be "perfect" but sometimes perfection isnt what sounds best.
p.s.- ive asked my dad (who has been an accomplished drummer since the age of 11) how he felt about click tracks and he said he hates them. He said he could play to one easily but he doesnt like the feeling of not being able to let loose and break away sometimes. He said he feels slight speed up and slowdowns (notice i said SLIGHT) give the song a little bit of breathing room and allows certain parts to be accented more than others, almost all older drummers will say this, as well as older producers. My band has been produced by 4 (modern) producers and every single one of them have given us the option "click track or no click track". We've chosen no all 4 times bc our style of music and changing time signatures cant be held down by clicks.
boysdontcry
08/12/04, 04:15 AM
well everything i could've said about click tracks has been said already so i am going to leave it alone.
also this is a bummer if it's true because it really was nice to see a drummer in this type of music that kept it simple for the most part and just kept the beat instead of going off every two seconds (which is cool too, but it's just different kinds of drumming). whatever, i still like MCR's music but now i really don't know what to think of them as people.

Ok if anyone has seen mcr live they need more than a click track to help there live show. They are a great live band because it's not perfect. I saw these guys in a 3 car garage in natrona and it was awesome i think it's lame that they are getting rid of someone who has given up a couple years of his life to do this, especially now that people are starting to take notice. I have a feeling him not dressing up as alice cooper has something maybe to do with it. I love Mcr they are a good band but this seems sketchy

naaa, im just mad bc it lacks the catchiness and dynamics of full collapse. Geoff said it himself in an interview for Under the Volcano: "i miss the hooks and explosive parts that Full Collapse had, dont expect to be hearing the 'war all the time' sound out of us ever again, it was just a growing/experimental phase". I fully agree with his statement and I hope their next release (if they even have one) is as explosive, dynamic and energy filled as full collapse was.

Fuck My Chemical Romance. This is easily easily one of the lamest things I've ever heard of a band doing. This guy is with you the whole time, you are getting FUCKING HUGE, and you kick out someone who is probably one of your best friends. Maybe I'll eat my words when the other side of the story comes out, but based upon this side of the story my little amount of respect for this band is completely gone.
And Full Collapse destroys all but a few songs on War All the Time.

It would be one thing if they were a struggling band, but aren't they pretty successful now? They were doing fine as they were, why screw over someone who is basically their brother?

well i always think of the saying "you have to murder your darlings"
you can't always afford to play favorites when you have a specific goal in mind
maybe doing "fine" isn't enough; maybe it's time to tighten up whatever loose threads there are
i'm not saying this is definitely the case, but if their new drummer is a better musician, and their new stuff just destroys their old stuff in that dept, then i can understand why they did what they did, since the music is all i'm concerned with
could they have handled it better, with more respect? i don't know for sure, but from the one side that we're hearing, probably
i'm just saying that i'm giving the band the benefit of the doubt and waiting for the results, instead of just making a snap judgement like "i'm never listening to them again, fuckin' mcr, that shit ain't right"

exactly. there's no way that war all the time can stack up to full collapse. i think their next album will surpass it though... if there is a next album :(
this happens every time a band member is asked to leave... the person who says his side first is always the victim (same thing in almost every situation like calling the cops, etc).
i think it's too early for any of you to condemn the band because you heard one side. not saying he's lying or anything, but you cant look at just one side and know what's going on.
anyone remember the midtown/dtr thing a few years back (living well is the best revenge.. hmm..)? yellowcard's first bassist (funny story btw)? saosin's old bassist? etc etc. when we first heard about these it was always like 'oh such and such is an asshole and blah blah blah blah.'

On a side note, if you have ever talked to anybody in MCR (after a show or what-not), you would notice that Matt seems to not fit the personality profiles of the other members of the band. Maybe it's just the impression I got... twice... but initially when I heard he was being asked to leave, I thought it was a personality conflict. He just doesn't seem to fit in with the music they play.
Also, I don't really understand the whole click track thing. So, I'm not going to comment on that.
