don't guess at the questions you don't know

I dunno, it's been a long time since I took it. I don't think I really studied. Bring peppermints and water if they let you, and take a whiz beforehand because you're stuck there for the whole time.

Get a good night's sleep

Review basic rules of algebra & geometry if you're rusty

Don't read the entire reading comprehension passages if you can help it because they're boring & they'll make you sleepy. Just read the specific line that the question in about.

Good luck!

i got a 1470 on the SAT back when it was out of 1600. Study your vocab. Know your math. Try to do well in math.

SATs don't matter as much as you think they do. My friend got into USC with a 1990, and apparently their average score is 2230.

I didn't study and I got a 1900. But you'd probably want to go over geometry. That (and reading comprehension, obviously) killed me.

Oh, I have a friend who wrote the essay on how Harold and Kumar changed his life and he got a 2350 on his SATs, full points on the essay I believe. So don't worry about that. ;)

go to a concert the night before, get really exhausted but get as little sleep as possible.
saw TREOS's last show the night before taking mine, got 800 on the math. not even kidding.
SAT I is just a reasoning test anyway. you don't really need to know much for specific information if you can logically think your way through the entire test.

generally though, its a good idea to get a god night sleep before. it is a long ass test and you dont want to be falling asleep during it.
definitely eat a substantial breakfast too. any distractions (tiredness, hunger, etc.) will negatively impact your scores.
and i hear that the best way to improve your scores is to take practice tests so you get used to the format, the length, and the types of questions on the test. i didnt actually take a practice test myself, but a friend i have (who i wouldnt really consider smart) did insanely well and he had been taking practice tests and studying flashcards of 'SAT words' that he got from some test book.

cheat. also take it numerous times to combine your best scores. study for the math only once and bomb verbal... then study only verbal and fuck math... word.

Its not that hard, dont let yourself freak out over it, and eat a good breakfast is all you need to know.

Take those SAT classes. They actually help. You'll find out the SAT is one big clusterfuck of pointlessness eventually.

take the ACT instead

Don't take the SAT if you can take the ACT. I got butthurt on the SAT and, not being cocky, I'm not as dumb as I may seem. The SAT seriously is a test full of bullshit logic questions which have no relevance/correlation to how well you're going to do in college. And I'm not saying the ACT is either, but I found that the ACT was easier for me just because it was a test that tested you on stuff you would learn in school, not on what types of short cuts and tricks you knew.

Maybe Berkley's average would be that. No way USC is 2230, last I checked it was about 2000-2100 average.
