I thought that he hated them, and wouldn't even type there name let alone advertise them...all cause of something that they never said, but I guess the bottm line is Tate does what the money tells him too. i'm glad he's growing up, maybe now he will post updates about them, kind of like TBS

it doesn't matter, ads are ads, once an ad kit is set up i don't think they'll change it all too much to fit where it's going, ap.net can't be the only place with that pop-up

they are awful people, and they surround themselves with awful people, and that is not hear say, it's personal experience
and it's not a "i met them and they were mean" kind of personal experience

first off, it's clear who
second, he is in direct control of who works for his site, so getting rid of a staffer is something he can do; ads, however, aren't completely in his control, meaning he doesn't create them. it's vagrant who's making and paying for the ad, and if he and the record company have an existing deal, they can place pretty much what they want. after all, they pay for the space, content isn't always discussed beforehand
of course, it could be that he doesn't know it's there, and will deal with it when he gets word, but that's been my general experience with ads

I think that Tate has made things more dramatic then they are...honestly all this site does is talk about them all the time, whether people hate them or not you have managed to help them by saying so much shit about them. No such things about bad publicity. How can Tate say that he doesn't get paid for this site, and also how can he say that his website is about shit talking when he has a forum just for shit talking. If you don't like the band then who cares, its one thing to be like oh there music is bad and another to consume your life with it. Lets just remember Tate doesn't like them for something that he thinks they implied in an interview??? IMPLIED...? ok Get over this band cause the more you talk the more interest people will have in them. Those who said Tate cannot take the content of ads on his website off cause they are already paid for are right...but it seems as if those who post regarding them are in the wrong, thats cool lets fire someone cause I don't like the person that they wrote about

"DM: actually, on the topic of shit spreading: what's up about absolutepunk.net and senses fail?
G: Rumors again.
DM: is it just to stir shit up?
G: Probably. Everything on that site is mostly gossip. Buddy was just saying that sites like ap.net and shit are just promotion tools. That's what people pay Jason Tate for - to promote their bands on his site
DM: It's kind of sad, there's been a huge influx of people making webzines a) to get free CDs and b) to make money. The dark side of the internet...
G: It's just like high school, but on the internet and more efficient at spreading gossip
DM: Speaking of the internet, how do you think the internet's affected music today?
G: It's made shitty bands like puddle of mudd and limp bizkit go down the tubes like they should, and "scene" bands like us get big.
DM: Oh, c'mon, I'm going to be candid here…nu-metal was a phase, so how come people don't realize "punk" can be the same? …by that I mean dead as disco in 2 years.
G: I dunno, I think the relationship between "punk" bands and fans is more on a personal level then nu-metal. Nu-metal, in its prime, was just like rap...you sign any nu-metal band and they're all over radio and MTV. Forget about the size of the venues, look at NFG – they’re fucking huge but it’s still the same as when they were smaller."....there is more but i think thats all that matters(http://decoymusic.com/reviewscontent.php?review=70&type=1)
That is what Tate got mad about, the fact that he said bands use them as a promotional tool...really he should be pissed at the guy that did the interview, but beyond anything that was the hair that broke the camels back...
but lets just make it clear that people pay for advertisments on this site...and the forum is plain and simply a place to gossip

Vagrant took out an ad for Hot Rod Circuit, I approved it. They booked, and paid.
http://www.vagrant.com/hrc_player/player.html
That's the link for the ecard they gave me, and HRC was up in it for a few days (as you may remember), and then they switched it out. Go check the link above, and notice that the URL is still for the HRC player, but the ecard inside is Senses Fail. Basically, legally, I can't do anything about it (ie, take it down). However, I have learned from this mistake, and added a new clause to all my ad contracts saying that not only do the original banners have to be approved by me, but all banners rotating into the website ALSO must be approved by me.
Basically, they caught a loophole, and sacrificed trust and part of our working relationship to get the pop up.

This isn't very surprising. Vagrant is ridiculously shady, i mean, afterall, they are owned 49% by Interscope. Lets face it guys, they aren't independent! And even though it kind of sucks to say it, liking Vagrant Records is like rooting for Big Business or the Yankees.

Tate,
Vagrant Records are pretty fucking clever for that one. You have to give it up, they found a loophole and took advantage of it.
Honestly, with the Richard (DTR) interview I read earlier, and now this, I'm quickly learning that Vagrant Records only care about promotion and cash.

here is my senses fail story that i will post until everyone hears it.
i went to see on the might of princes play a show at a polish hall in the middle of the woods in CT about 2 years ago. there were about 5 opening bands, senses fail starting the show.
i sat near them outside and listened in on them dropping some musical knowlege, one of them shared his thoughts on ska... "i don't like ska, but i like less than jake and reel big fish."
ok, that makes about as much sense as saying "i don't like pop punk, but i like nfg and fall out boy".
anyway, this is a local DIY show, and their first time ever playing CT, and like any small hall show, it wasn't exactly filled to capacity. when they were initially booked on the show they weren't even signed to drive thru yet, by the time the show rolled around the announcement had been made a few days prior about their signing.
was anyone there to see them? nope. did they make an attempt to win over anyone? nope.
multiple times during the set buddy said "normally we go a little more crazy, but... you know."
did they play fine? sure, but making comments like that inbetween almost every song is totally uncalled for. i don't care who you are or what label you are on, the bands i admire the most are the ones who put on the same performance for 30 kids as they would 3000.
after their set they drove back to NJ in two suvs.

"i don't like ska, but i like less than jake and reel big fish."
ok, that makes about as much sense as saying "i don't like pop punk, but i like nfg and fall out boy".
I really do not consider Less than jake's new stuff ska. Half of the songs dont even have horns and the ones that do are strictly power chords and basic drum beats and chord progressions. reel big fish on the other hand...
p.s.- on the might of princes OWNED, BIG TIME. Major props on that.

About the pop-ups: I'm thinking of releasing an "ad-free" version of AP .. not sure how to set it all up though ... thoughts? Ideas?
WOW, that would shut "fuckabsolutepunk.net" up. They might even have to resort to making their OWN web-zine, based on their own creativity and ideas.
PLEASE...DO IT...IM BEGGING YOU.
