So I saw these guys on Live Earth and a buddy of mine happens to be a big fan, so I've been listening to them a bit recently. And my god, they are good. Anyone else into them?

And for those who don't know of them, they're hard to categorize, but if you like any bit of folk, rock, or blues, not to mention a bit of pop, check 'em out. You won't be disappointed.

I am definately with you, I've been listening to Sunrise Over Sea and I can't get enough of it. Peaches & Ceam is definately a song in my top 10 and I'm always listening to it when I want to relax and just rest. They're an awesome band I like them a lot.

Good Australian singer/songwriter.

His albums are ok, not great, this song alone makes him worthy of an official thread though.

It's quite beautiful.

sweet thread. the trio is pretty good, but i find them a little repetitive on album. great band live though, their live show would probably convert just about anyone

drummer michael barker is bloody good. he also filled in on drums on this years split enz reunion tour & let out some massive worldly type jams, loved every second

I have never been a huge John Butler fan but I appreciate his music and his talent.

Not many people know that John Butler was born in California to an Australian father and American mother and moved to Australia at the age of 12

I'd have to agree with you on this! I enjoy it more than the 9 minute or 12 minute versions.

Yea, no doubt I'll get around to checking out the new album too. As well all know, their strength lies within their live performance.

Tonight seems to be the night for new albums haha. Just heard the new one, April Uprising. I've never been huge on these guys outside of a live setting, but still find something enjoyable about all their albums, & this is no different. I'm enjoying it, although I personally found it a bit bland at times. Could be a bit of a grower, but usually I only really use their albums to get a feel for the new songs before I see them live whenever they tour next.

My review for the new record, if anyone's curious:

Nice review, although the final rating is a little higher than I would have given it. The album just feels a little lackluster, or dare I say... soul-less. Doesn't have that lasting re-playability for me. But each to their own. Perhaps it sounds fantastic in a live setting, which is how all roots music deserves to be heard.

It's definitely more pop-ish and less soulful than their former records, but I like that he's still looking for new sounds and styles. Grand National was good, but it felt a bit stagnant.

Bumping this thread because I only recently picked up April Uprising. I've only listened to the whole thing a few times over but at first listen there are too many slow songs on there for me.
