PUNK ROCK THE MOVIE

THE PUNK ROCK MOVIE was originally produced in 1978 just as punk had gone overground. The DVD features a variety of 35mm recordings made by Letts at The Roxy, on-the-road footage of various seminal punk groups and amazingly original reportage of the movement in full-swing,
with punks in all their garb at a pivotal point in British music and social history.

Hey! Thanks for requesting Hollywood Lies for a review. :) Much appreciated. We were hoping someone would want to see it. It was produced by Casey Crescenzo of TREOS/The Dear Hunter and we could not be more excited with the way it came out.

I actually know Paper Mache from my year in the US. They were pretty good friends with some friends of mine and of my best friends played with them a few times. I know they'd certainly appreciate a review or some exposure. The music is actually pretty decent as well.

They don't receive most of the stuff they have. They get requests from bands, then when someone asks for it, they give the band the address and they send it to the person. They really don't physically have much (if any) of these things.

uh what?
if you read carefully, the text accompanying these cds is always something along the lines of "this is a list of the cds we received for review this week at ap.net"
that's because the staff members get sent the cds. your imagined way of doing publicity would be so tedious. yeah, sometimes freelance writers will request a cd from a publication they're writing for, and the publication will then have the publicist send a copy to the writer directly, but that's not how the majority of these cds get reviews/press.

No. I get sent CD's by them. These CD's that they list are request from bands for reviews that they get. Then a writer requests it. When I ask for one, I receive an e-mail from linda that was sent to the band and that i was CC'd in. Then I get an e-mail from the band telling me that they sent out my CD. uh first of all, you saying "these cds that they are request from bands for reviews that they get" does not make sense to me at all. i hope to god you don't consider yourself a journalist if you can barely form a sentence. secondly, the situation that you attempted to describe in what i quoted above is what i described, in my earlier post, as a cd being sent to a writer directly. but as i stated that is not the norm, as the majority of cds that are sent out by publicists are a) sent to the publication (where someone who works there reviews it, thus there is no need for the band to send a cd to someone else), or b) sent to a freelancer who writes a review either at the request of a publication or on their own accord and then finds a publication to publish it. this is what happens EVERY TIME i work with a record. you're an exception to the norm, and thats all.
and to go back to the original post i quoted, no website or magazine or blog is going to say "huh some band said i should review their cd. let me go out of my way to get a copy." if a band wants press they have to work for it, namely by sending their cd out there, not waiting for people to come to them.

You are wrong. Linda, I hope it's alright that I post this:

Please feel free to add to the thread of the listing and post news and comments about this music.

I will offer this CD to all of the reviewers for a possible review on the site. This listing will provide some promotion while the CD waits for a review. You will be contacted when a reviewer has requested your CD.

Then this entire site is an exception to the norm. This entire site functions on bands making requests for reviews and then people asking to do them. I was simply stating how this site works, not how everything works.
