In the most recent issue of his newsletter, Ben Folds himself wrote an e-mail to all the subscribers, where he talks about the delays behind the Super D EP. He also talks about each and every song on it and gives background information. The last sentence preludes to Ben joining a new band. I'll let you take that however you wish. The e-mail can be found in the replies.

hi there,

ben here.

well, we mixed super d two months ago and the cover is still hanging around a printing press somewhere. the problem seems to be that they can't print black for some reason; it turns out blue. i shit you not. so it keeps going back to the printing place. and when one thing gets fixed, something else shitty pops up. when i said, 'i don't think the cover looks right', i didn't know it would cause the record to be late by 6 weeks or so. sorry. they kinda got it right now. and my art guy at sony even flew down to the place to see if he could persuade them to keep the blue out of the black, and it's still blue-ish. oh well. thanks to smog design for helping us get it right, and the label for flying the guy down to bumfuck north carolina to try and explain to these people what black is until he was blue in the face, and my manager for making a hundred phone calls about it, but mostly to all of you for being patient as we get through these very difficult times. if there's been a slight lag in US mail time this month, it could have to do with the volume of blue proof sheets between new york and nashville.

and so... it will come out on iTunes on aug 24. the people who get the signed ones and pre-ordered the ep will get it the same day.

it's been so long since i mixed it i can't remember what the hell's on it... let's see...

'get your hands off my woman':
this is a darkness song. it started as something i did every few gigs...
heavy metal on piano, but in the studio the spirit of stewart copeland
came over me on the drum track and i changed it around some.

'kalamazoo':
there's a couple of demos of this song floating around for years. i wrote it when i was about 19 or 20. one of the demos is really upbeat, recorded with my old band, majosha. the other one was a four track demo that i made of the song by myself in my apartment. i had to consult that version a few times to work out how the hell i was going to play drums, bass and piano on this and stay in time. got it worked out. i added strings because i could.

'adelaide':
i wrote this right before hopping on the plane to adelaide....
i'd been walking around adelaide the year before with the chorus running through my head.

'rent a cop':
once i was watching a mall security officer whisper nasty shit in girls ears as they walked by. i don't know why he didn't get slapped but i guess they figured he was the man and so they couldn't say anything back. and recently when this riff came to me, his stolid visage revisited my
consciousness once again whispering through his doughnut. this is a very deep song. john painter plays six horn instruments on this track. a couple of years ago he'd never played sax, and all of a sudden he plays sax.... i don't know how that happened, but anyway he sounds official.

'them that got':
ray charles died and i just wanted to tip the hat to the man so we found a recording of me doing this song live at the piano.

i'm currently in the studio recording more music. live tracks in the studio with my new small band.

I thought the last line referred to a studio band that may or may not be touring with him on the next tour. I know he's in studio for his new album now so that has to be what it means.
Besides, he's already in The Bens.

I was from Kalamazoo, before it was cool to be Kalamazoo. Yes there is a movie with Blossom in it and supposedly Bruce Campbell from the Army of Darkness and Evil Dead movies, although I have not seen him at any of the shoots. I have heard Ben's "Kalamazoo" live before and its awesome
