I look at this topic as "Bands I was into when I was 15 that I never liked later releases from, maybe because I 'grew out of it' or maybe because they later flat out blew."

A Static Lullaby, Finch, Anti-Flag, From Autumn to Ashes, Atreyu, etc.

I thought "Indestructible" was pretty decent, and that was Rancid's last studio album. The problem is more that they haven't come out with anything in 5 years.

Against Me! still makes great music, but it's hard to get into their new stuff when you see 12 and 13 year olds running around in New Wave shirts, listening to Against Me! on the radio and MTV. It's shit. How did an anarchist band get onto MTV? They sold out. Don't get me wrong, I still love their music, but as people they suck.

yeah its natural to wanna hate when you see bands blow up and give the impression that they embrace and support all the bullshit that goes along with major media marketing success (aka MTV)

BUT, you obviously got into the band because you loved their MUSIC not the fact that you heard them thru a less mainstream source. throwing around "Sell Out" seems a little harsh and as dudes...they are super nice and still stand for the same principles they wrote about on "Axle Rose".

one of my favorite bands ever, but "sound the alarm" was alright and "under the boards" really isnt anything special at all. very dissapointed in the band they've become, but i guess a band can't stay the same forever and i'll always have SWYA, TBC and CSD to listen to.

Lately, I've been pondering where Finger Eleven went wrong.

Tip and The Greyest of Blue Skies were solid, S/T was enjoyable (except that the song "One Thing" is the most annoying song possibly ever).

Them Vs. You Vs. Me is an atrocious album. The song "Paralyzer" has some of the worst lyrics I've ever read and the whole disc is just one giant crock of shit.

Hahahaha.
Its totally understandable why some people wouldn't like "Sound The Alarm" and "Under The Boards."
They are both a very belligerant step away from everything that made them what they are.
Both albums feature: a very dirty and distorted bass, Chris's new whiny nasally sneer, dark and sinister music with the ever present descriptive lyrics and a more overall aggressive style.
They are much different than anything Saves The Day has ever released before.

Just because STA and UTB are different than what you are comfortable with doesn't mean that they suck. I think that they are both very good albums. They're not as good as SWYA or TBC, but they are still very good and solid albums.

Personally, my favorite Saves The Day album is "In Reverie."

I enjoy Light Grenades but it's nowhere near close to touching Morning View Crow Left Of The Murder, or the rest. I'll always respect them as artists and they're def one of my favorite from back in the day but i think the Incubus I grew up on may be winding down

eh i didn't like it that much...the thing with incubus is they were one of my favorite bands in high school...but then i kinda grew out of them...so i still love the old stuff...i guess it kinda takes me back a bit...but the newer stuff just doesn't do it for me

as far as coheed goes...in keeping secrets is definitely their best album...but honestly they haven't had a single song on any album i didn't love...i thought the last 2 albums were great...no world for tomorrow is def better than good apollo imo...

as far as thursday goes i think they are kinda going slightly down hill....i mean war all the time was def the best record...with full collapse right behind it (actually i'd say they're both equally great)...acbtld was ok but not great....hopefully the next one will be better

i never really got into thrice...something about them just never made me really like them all that much

I do enjoy it, and it's a good song. I enjoy "Rouges" too. I was just saying, in comparison to their older stuff..I'm getting older though, bands can't stay the same forever, Boyd's getting old I suppose, mid 30's?

If Incubus had stayed the same, they would have disappeared like the rest of the pack years ago. Morning View is a better record than Light Grenades, but I don't think they are slipping. And now they are on hiatus so who knows when the next record will be. "Dig" is a great song too. It amazes me how that song didn't take off on the radio when that "sensitive" sounding Daughtry song is on every 5 minutes.

PS You are not "getting old"

well toushay then, and I agree with you on the fact if they stayed the same they would've slipped into the void with the rest. The beauty of Incubus is the fact that each album is extremely different then the last album. I enjoyed Light Grenades, I was in no way bashing it. I was just comparing it to the Incubus I grew up on, S.C.I.E.C.E was my first, followed by Fungus and so on. In my eyes LG is a radio friendly CD...and it's a good listen too. They just didn't have the energy and whatnot (or it seemed to me) that they did prior to it, hence the getting older comment.

ps. well technically, i mean i AM getting older as the days go by...:-)

forgot to add weezer (pretty much everything since pinkerton has sucked big fat donkey dick)

and red hot chili peppers (sorry to anyone who doesn't agree...but honestly they've been remaking the same song over and over and over again for the past 10 years with slightly different riffs and different lyrics. the fact that i can hear the very first note on the guitar and tell that its a rhcp song without hearing anyone singing or anything...is ridiculous)

Yeah they are vastly different from when they were writing stuff like "new skin", but hey that happens to most bands with age. I have a soft spot for SCIENCE and the Enjoy Incubus EP, but I really like that the band is still making relevant music. Light Grenades is radio friendly in some aspects because it has some hooky straight forward songs on it, but Incubus is an alternative rock sort of band and that's what they ought to be doing. Like I said, I thought "Dig" was plenty radio friendly enough, but the masses rejected it. Energy, maybe not in the sense of the heavy rock songs they had written previously, but I think they pull off the slower tempo with good results. Also I really dig the lyrics for Light Grenades, Brandon is as good as ever. Except the "Love Hurts" chorus haha. But hey you're not the only one who looks back to the older Incubus releases, those were what was big when we first got into the band.

i think incubus is just the type of band that everyone has certain soft spots for...i started listening to them when make yourself came out...i love that album as well as morning view and a crow left of the murder...but i never really like science or enjoy incubus (though i own them both)....i think they are kind of a time period band...everyone loves them at some point...most people that were big fans always will enjoy incubus (no pun intended)...but the newer stuff won't always feel the same as the old stuff

but everyone who's been discussing this so far is right...there are some really good songs on light grenades

well said, and I guess that's why I made the "I guess I'm getting older comment". You've got two years on me, so you must have seen more shit come and go then I have. It's just weird looking at the music scene now and looking at what I grew up with. I walked into hot topic the other day to get gauges and every band shirt they had in there (that wasn't a band three years older or more) had a stupid ass design on it with the most unessaccary ugly ass neon colors on it ever. When I stop and ask myself, "is this what the music scene is becoming?" I'm grateful for releases like Light Grenades. It keeps good music pumping through all the shit today (and I'm not against all new bands..but it's going downhill)

Yeah it does feel different I guess, but I gotta say I still love what they are doing and I don't feel like it is doing a disservice to their previous efforts. You're right, they have so many good songs I don't know how people really like nothing by them.

haha yeah dude, and also, I can barely conceptualize how much my taste in music changed between Make Yourself and Light Grenades. Make Yourself was one of my first records, and between then and now things have changed so much, yet I still love all of Incubus' different sounds. I am also happy that they still stand out today.

incubus was the first band i ever noticed didn't rhyme 90% of their lyrics....back in the incubus golden era i was also listening to a lot of generic radio shit (not proud of that)....but i remember listening to make yourself and thinking....none of the lines brandon boyd is singing rhyme....i kind of give incubus some credit for making me like music that requires more talent and less marketing

I'll start,

Pennywise
Rancid

Pennywise's new cd, while by far not thier best wasnt bad at all. at least in my opinion.

Fall Out Boy- Do I really need to explain this?

All Time Low- Yup Put Up or Shut Up was good, So Wrong Its Right not so much...

Weezer- post-Pinkerton is from mediocre to shitty

also add in Alkaline Trio and Set Your Goals.

Against Me!
Alkaline Trio

i thought both of thier newest cds were good. but then again i'm partial to Alkaline Trio. As far as i'm concerned they can almost do no wrong.
