Report in from the Finch show in Milwaukee, WI tonight. Finch played about 5 new songs, which all sounded very good. They also played a song that they've "never played before in their lives live" called "Mushroom Party". They also covered "Stuck On You" by Failure. However, they did not play one of their most popular songs, "Letters to You".

no shit, why the hell woudl you expect them to play it? If i recall correctly they used to tease fans with that song and play the intro chord as if the song was about to start and then just stop. Same with Stay with Me, they'd do the drum roll for it and than the opening chords and than stop and say "na, we're just fucking with you, those songs suck"
yea... i mean i like those songs. but they are the popiest songs they have. and maybe they dont like them anymore...

they sucked when they played in jersey. their new stuff is shitty. their most popular song is what it is to burn and the fucking opened with it. they were a friggin joke.

I loved them when they played on Long Island 2 weeks ago. 8 old songs 7 new ones and a cover. It was a well balance that held over nicely, in my opinion.

Well according to drive thru, Finch is the reason we have "screamo", of course they can't play Letters To You anymore. Forget Grade, Thursday, Saetia, and all of the other bands that combined screaming and singing, since drive thru founded Finch, they will claim they started it all. They did not.

p.s.- saetia blows. The singer sounds like he's running around on fire, horrible.

they played in Toronto last night they were kind of dissapointing the sound was horrible and the played about 7 new songs and only a few old ones. They also said there album would be out next year...(they're taking their sweet ass time on this album.) I don't think they like playing their old songs anymore at all. I didn't really like the new one's much either but the sound was shit so i guess we'll see in 2005!!!??

finch hardcore? give me a break. they are just getting more and more generic. they are doing like TBS and milking their first cd as much as they can before the new one comes out. pshhh...

more and more generic? I guess you havent heard the demo versions of the new stuff...? They also fired Mark Trombino, the producer who produced WIITB, Enrigue Iglesias, Starting Line, Midtown, and Jimmy Eat World, bc he wouldnt let them break away from mainstream rock and was trying to make them sound GENERIC. to me off beat drums, flanger delayed guitar with super weird melodies is not generic. I dont even like the new stuff, i tinhk its boring as hell...but i defiinetly wouldnt call it genric or mainstream, neither would pappas, hence why he quit.

they dont play "letters to you" or "stay with me" because they "retired" them. just like brand new retired jude law and seventy times seven. at the bowery show, some idiot was screaming out for them to play LTY and R2K told him to give up the dream, its never happening. R2K was also sporting a very odd half beard, in case you were wondering.

Maybe I missed something, but I don't think Brand New retired those songs.

Em....no. They still play those songs.
And whenever I saw Finch, they have never played Letters To You.

Saw this after I posted...but I saw them at the end of April, and they played both the songs you said were "retired". Maybe they were joking? Maybe Jesse was drunk, who knows. But they did play those songs.

Haha.... R2K's beard was the shit and he had that really long hair too. I saw them at the Long Island show and yeah, it was dissappointing how they opened with WIITB and that show was dissappointing to start with. Most likely because I had high expectations but the new songs really downed it for me.
And Finch doesn't even like their old songs anymore because they apparently grew out of those songs. They were written when they were in highschool and so they've grown past that time of their lives or something like that. The new songs sounds like shit. The demos of their new songs sound like shit. Out of the 6-7 new songs they played lived, only 1 of them sounds good to me... but for that new album coming out next year I say to hell with it. So now after they come out with a new album, they will most likely retire more than half of their old songs that they still play alive.

like other people have said, they don't play those songs because they as a band don't like them. "stay with me" was written for nate's girlfriend and they all think it's kind of corny or something. and so what if they don't play "letter to you," that's their worst song anyway. some bands can pull off repetitiveness, but finch can't.
and yeah, i remember hearing about brand new retiring "70x7," it was (or seemed like) a long time ago.

the band name is failure. if you've heard of year of the rabit, or on, the singer of that was in failure. Its one of the bands that had inspired alot of the current bands, another band that falls into this category that the cover is Hum - Stars.

hey, recover was great at this show too. mmm...new Recover, so good.
I think Finch kinda sucked(at the milwaukee show). The old stuff they played, there was barely any screaming from Nate, and the new stuff sounded way to poppy, and absolutly no screaming. weak if you ask me

yeah i can understand why a band would not like to play some of their older stuff if they've grown past it
but to retire it and vow to never play it again sucks. not so much with "letters to you" but more with "stay with me" and for brand new "seventy times seven"

They play: New Beginnings, Grey Matter, What It Is To Burn, Untitled, Three Simple Words, Without You Here, Worms Of The Earth and sometimes Ender. The new stuff is NOT more poppy, I am going to be running my street team and I can tell you right now that more only worry is that there isn't a single because it's NOT poppy. Nate is screaming less because they're sick of being looked at as a screamo band. They want to be a band who screams where it's fit, not a band who is expected to scream every other line.
PS New shit is 50 million times better than any crap on the old album, it's just not pop-punk anymore.

brand new definitely played the nassau community college show in June (a few months after you saw them in april). And yes, 70x7 was retired there. i don't know about jude law though.

Yeah, I was VERY unhappy with Finch. Sure, the new stuff is good, but they fucking sucked. All the shit was new and it was really boring and dammit...you go to a fucking show to hear a band you love and expect to hear songs you know and can sing along to. The have never come to Indiana, and when they did, they blew it. It's too bad.

I sort of agree about everything except for the new stuff being good. I only liked one of their new songs. I wouldn't go as far as to say their new stuff is 50 millions times better. They were shit during the tour. They performed poorly at the Bowery show but did better at the Long Island show where I saw them. An explanation for their poor performance could be their lack of enthuisiasm for their old songs. They probably hate playing their old songs but like seeing the crowd's reaction but the opposite runs for their new songs where they like playing their new songs but the crowd's reaction is weak.
That's just my guess on it. I see the demos as demos and not the finished product and they performed poorly live so I right now do not have high expectations for their new stuff. I think they should release some more demos that are better quality or some promos or whatever.

personally, i think this tour is so finch can get back into the groove of playing live shows again, cause the last time they came to my city, it was in january 03.
they are probably warming up and shit, so that when there new cd comes out, they wont suck as much.
i think the new demos are badass, and am really excited to hear the new record, even though its taken for fucking ever.
