Pride and Prejudice was good too.

Ennio Morricone- One of the best composers ever in my opinion. The score to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly wouldn't be half as good without the absolutely amazing score.

Thomas Newman
Howard Shore
Dario Marianelli

James Newton Howard can bring me to tears. The Village has one of the best scores I have ever heard.

The aforementioned Ennio, who has done an absurd number of great films. Also, Vangelis for Blade Runner and Missing. Bernard Hermann was great as well.

That score was fantastic indeed.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Clint Mansell yet. He's the man.

Thomas Newman by far.

Mark Isham, James Horner, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, John Barry, James Newton Howard, Jerry Goldsmith, Andrea Guerra, and Alan Silvestri are my other favorites.

Love it.

My favorite is Thomas Newman, but Randy Edelman (if only for Last of the Mohicans ridiculously great score), James Horner (the theme to The Land Before Time is the most underrated theme EVER!), Carter Burwell, Jerry Goldsmith, and of course, Hans Zimmer.

I also love the addition of Jon Brion in here. Love that guy, and his score for I Heart Huckabees is fantastic. His pop songs are great as well.

Honestly, when Mansell does anything well besides Aranofsky films I'll like the guy more. His record is spotty at best.

I apparently am a movie score snob.

I love the piece 'Together We Will Live Forever' by Mansell. It's so beautiful.

Nobody will ever come close to Newman for me.

Composers: Max Steiner, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore, and of course Ennio Morricone
Film Scores: TWWB, Atonement, 2001: A Space Odyssey (I know, technically it doesn't have an official score by a composer but the music makes most of the scenes in that movie)

I love the Donnie Darko score. One of the few I can stop and listen to when it comes up on my shuffle.

Elfman is definatly my fav, I love alot of them tho, Jerry Goldsmith, Christopher Young, Joseph LoDuca, I like James Horners mid 80's-early 90's stuff, i like alot of the old school guys too Herrmann & Morricone.

while this is a punk based website, I'm wondering if anyone has heard Elfman's score for To Die For, its one of the craziest, most schizophrenic themes ever(like somting you'd expect from mr.bungle)
It starts out all Elfman-like with strings and a creepy la la la la choir then instantly shifts into this crazy hardcore/thrash instrumental stuff, and keeps changing lol, here's a clip http://http://elfman.filmmusic.com/media/todiefor/to_die_43.ra

oh and of course after that opening piece then theres this peppy tune lol
http://elfman.filmmusic.com/media/todiefor/to_die_42.ra

thats how crazy it is, definatly Elfman's most insane score, Freeway being a close second
