I'm in a new band.. been writing for the past 3 months. Recording in October.

Tips [aka common sense that bands rarely follow]:
- Be Patient.
- Local shows are overrated, go on tour.
- For a demo/ep. Write eight or more songs, record the best five.
- Tour some more.
- Keep writing, just incase a label approaches you and wants you to record an LP next week or showcase more material.

I'll think of more.

local shows aren't really over-rated, every person in the indsutry knows that a local following is important

We've played big shows, small shows, and shit in between.

other than the vocals, which are a little high for my taste, i think they're pretty decent

dont get hung up with artwork. labels dont give a fuck about artwork. If you have good songs that will sell, they'll sign you. Bottom Line.

I play bass and it really woulda been nice to be in a band...I only have one friend who I'd wanna play with, but he's committed to his other band and can't make time for two. The rest of the people here listen to pop punk and emo and all they wanna do are shitty covers...

DOES NO ONE IN NASSAU COUNTY LIKE HARDCORE?!?!?!

Right now I play acoustic guitar and bass guitar in a two piece emo-pop band called "Lucky Shot" (www.luckyshotrocks.tk www.purevolume.com/luckyshot ) We are recording our EP right now. Once we find a full time drummer that we like playing with we are probably going to start a full band, and our sound will probaly get a lil harder. Go check us out...the song we have on purevolume is just a TBS cover we recorded in my bedroom with a bad mic....but our new stuff that we are working on sounds great.

dude, move to Sammamish, WA. Everyone here that plays an instument is a scene hardcore kid. And everyone else just likes rap music (oh and by the way we have 2% of our school being black...so these are all white kids)

Im in a "band." Were called Potted Flowers. We started it as a joke after seeing some bands on Purevolume and decided to make a fake band. But weve actually made a couple real songs, although they are very very bad.

I'm in two bands:

I play lead guitar in an 8-piece ska band called Jimmy And The Citrus. We're in the vein of the Planet Smashers, Reel Big Fish meets older Catch 22 and Big D And The Kids Table.

And I play lead guitar in a 5-piece punk rock band called Cap'n Crunch & The Cereal Killers. We basically play fast punk songs like NOFX meets Rise Against.

To whomever said my advice was horrible:

How was my advice horrible? Please pinpoint the things you disagree with, and tell me why.

Local shows ARE overrated. Yes, They are fun.. and its great to have a good local following. The mistake most bands make is they get stuck in the local scene and never leave the local scene. That's the point I was making. I was urging bands to get out and tour.. touring is better for a band, and its a known fact. It's a good way to keep bands grounded, and shrink swollen ego's from their local following.

If anyone disagrees.. I'd like to hear their points as well. This is just my opinion.
