On 89x in Detroit, Straylight Run's "Existentialism on Prom Night" became the new People's Choice champion over Cake's "No Phone" two days ago.

i wonder who is actually working at 89X now a days thats playing them because for the most part they just play nu-metal galore along with some power pop-punk. 89x also revealed that horrible Taking back sunday song as well.

but...but....Cake rocks more. 'No Phone' may not be their best song, but I got to chant the chorus for about 10 minutes at the show i went to a couple weeks ago. 'Prolonging the Magic'=classic CD.

I don't get to listen to 89x that much seeing that I haven't been going to Detroitish as often, but it seems they've been getting worse over the years. I'm upset that more people actually voted for Straylight Run than my dear Cake.

yeah, we're all in love with the straylight run album. that $0 that we've gotten from straylight/victory was just so amazing that we are all lying and saying we love it. i donno what you think you know, but i've worked here for 3 years now and never gotten a penny from a label/band for anything i said about them. i love the straylight run album because i think it's good, not because someone is paying me to say so.

haha cock arms.

Anyways, Its just sad to hear how there are so many great bands in MI and they don't get the credit they truly deserve. They could be on 89x or any other station of the style and people would truly love them. We have bands such as the weakend,(who jared kaufman i believe is obsessed with) the chiodos bros, before I go, Ettison clio (who just recorded an album with the guy who did Dashboard confessional) fordirelifesake (who are just incredible), signs of collapse.

I just wish there was a radio station that people on this website could enjoy 24/7 and not have to wait around forever to hear.

The Straylight album is bomb, period. Anyone who says "Jake (or any ap staff member) is getting paid to say it's good" is a fucking retard. Once this cd comes out, you'll see that you won't need to be paid to say that's its a stellar cd.

I agree completely. Don't forget Bear vs Shark too. That's always bothered me about 89x. They play Eminem and Kid Rock and other crap because they're from detroit, but not good local music, save one small show on sundays where they play mid-90's sounding bands.

Actually you guys are all knocking 89X but it hasn't fallen off that badly. True, they're playing a lot of neo-metal, but they still play a lot of new punk and emo too. In fact I've heard them play bear vs. shark, ettison clio, the starting line, etc. They've just gotta try and please the masses. They're also sponsering a lot of metro area dives and have always support Clutch and St. Andrews. I'll admit it'd be cooler if even smaller local bands could get some time but at they end of the day they've still gotta make some loot.

If you ever in the Lansing area, check out 88.7 The Impact, it's the Michigan State college radio station and plays a ton of local shit.
