Anybody know any great rock operas or really interesting concept albums? I already know of all the really famous ones (Tommy, the Wall, etc.). I'm into pretty much any genre of music, with the exception of post-rock.

Dude, you're from NC... have you heard The Never??? They're from Chapel Hill, and if you're looking for concept album type stuff they'd be right up your alley.
Their album Antarctica is based on a children's book that the main songwriter did. The CD is held in a paperback with really awesome illustrations, and even cues at the bottom to tell you when in the song to turn the page if you wanna follow along. The story is about a boy who dreams of a world covered in snow when he's sad, falls in love with a girl and keeps in touch with letters and a telescope, and one day finds a nuclear bomb in the forest.
Music wise, it's all over the place, and amazing no matter what they try. Start with your basic indie rock sound, add some Beatlesy melodies and Beach Boys harmonies, some electronics, so punkish guitars, random stuff like mandolin, synths, and a few violin interludes. Imagine putting The Blue Album, Kid A, Pet Sounds, Tommy, and The Devil Went Down To Georgia in a blender, and you might be kinda close to what it sounds like.

I know a lot of people don't like the sound of Drop Dead, Gorgeous but I felt Worse Than A Fairy Tale was a great concept album. Danny's voice is great for portraying a serial killer and his victims with the way he can make his voice sound all crazed and panicy and all, his voice tends to sound whiny at times though so I don't know how you'll feel about that.

It is, probably my favorite album from 2006. But if you want it, buy it don't download it, the book adds a really neat dimension to it and the artwork is really good. They put on a really good live show too.
You also might wanna check out the band Sleep Station. Every album they've released has been a concept album. My favorite is Hang In There Charlie, about astronauts stranded in space. A lot of their stuff has a sort of Pink Floyd meets Elephant Six vibe to it, and I really dig the singer's voice.

I checked this out and really enjoyed it. "The Witch" is ridiculously catchy. I'm at work and it's just playing in my head.

Yeah that's a good song. I think my favorites on the album are "Summer Girl/ Old Man Winter" and "March of the Minions".
I wonder if the original poster has listened to them yet?

Cool... do you know if it's an acoustic show or a full band show? When I saw them it was acoustic, and their drummer has this crazy homemade kit he plays, it's amazing to watch. They're really cool guys, definitely go chat with them if you have the opportunity.

Maybe I'd go into a debate about that if you were more logical about it but I will say this...saying something sucks is the immature way to go about it, but then again you're just some whiny kid that says everything sucks and you're too narrow-minded to understand the art of Drop Dead, Gorgeous' music.

I've never heard Drop Dead Gorgeous but I'm reading their lyrics and they sound pretty lame.
Soaked in blood, only to be sterilized.
Served alive, I want to be traumatized.

Though I understand what you are saying I can't agree with DDG and art being in the same sentence. They are a pretty generic hardcore/post hardcore band(screw genres) Nothing really sets them apart and their lyrics are sub par. Don't get me wrong its not like I hate them because I don't I I just don't think they are doing anything different
As for the topic.
Coheed & Cambria
The Dear Hunter
The Mars Volta
Protest The Hero - Kezia (Fortress Is a Semi Concept as well)
After The Sirens - What I Have To Give, Let It Be Enough
Catch 22 - Permanent Revolution
Forgive Durden - Wonderland (I believe this is a concept album)
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade (Obviously)
Dream Theatre - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
Mastodon - Leviathan, Blood Mountain
Broden Terry

Keep an ear out for Fightstar's new music. They've promised a bit of Rock/Opera in one or two of their tracks.
Fightstar's first album Grand Unification is a concept album also but since it's still post/hardcore, maybe not your style. I'd still recommend them though.
