We need to push impeachment and here is why.

yUuhKJYFUfg

In 50 days, congressional oversight may be dead. The Constitution that has served our nation so well since 1789 may be hopelessly and forever diminished. Our federal government and, in turn, our nation may never be the same.

Those are the stakes.

In order for our government to function, we must have checks and balances. In order to prevent a president from assuming king-like powers and to ensure that all presidents are held accountable for their actions, Congress must have effective congressional oversight ability. And, of course, our presidents must respect that power.

George W. Bush does not.

It is time to put an end to this defiling of our Constitution. The U.S. House of Representatives has set September 26 as a target date for adjournment. By that time, Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, and Josh Bolten must comply with the congressional subpoenas they have been issued - and which a federal judge has ordered them to follow.

If they do not, then George W. Bush must be impeached and removed from office.

If he is not removed from office, Congress will have established a standard under which a president may deny Congress's investigative power without penalty. That simply cannot happen.

So today we are launching our "Testify or Impeach" campaign. We are hoping that tens of thousands of Americans will join our call. We will also be asking other organizations to work with us in order to make this campaign as strong as possible.

But, first, we need you to send a "Testify or Impeach" message to the White House so they start to understand that Americans actually care about our Constitution. Please take a moment to send a message by clicking on the following link:

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2165/t/1027/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=25316

After you have sent your message, please forward this E-mail to your friends and family or use the "Tell-A-Friend" function on our Web site, which automatically appears after your message is sent.

I appreciate you joining this campaign and will be sure to keep you updated about the progress of this effort over the coming weeks.

Best,
Steve

Go to http://kucinich.us to sign the petition. If you have already signed it, get a family member or a friend to sign it. Get them to do the same. I'm going to print out the petition pdf and see if any my neighbors will sign.

Three different threads for this already.

Edit: Nevermind, I suppose this is a different impeachment initiative.

lol I know I made one or two before but I really want to drive the point home. If Bush walks, America is dead.

I'm not 100% sure but if I were to guess, it would be only American citizens. But if people who don't live here even want the guy to be impeached, that sends a big message as well. This guy sure made his mark in history.

No it's not. I really don't want to get into this discussion again, but that's a major overstatement.

Okay, lets live in a country where the original system of checks and balances are no longer relevant. I would love for the worst to happen to this place. Love it.

I know you root for the worst. It's okay. But as we've had this discussion before, that's all I wanted to say.

I'm just telling it like it is in the broadest sense. If you don't like it, don't reply to my threads or ignore me. Like you said, we already had this discussion before. There was no purpose to your post other than to antagonize me/make yourself feel superior/any other selfish and emotional drive. I don't like it and I'd appreciate if you wouldn't do that.

Okay? Thanks.

And this matters because? Call me naive, but I feel like the decisions that affect the country matter more than the personal life of the president.

However, I do realize that an affair like this brings a negative light to the country as the president is considered the leader.

Couldn't do that because how else would there be insightful political discussion (which I believe is the point of this message board). Just because I don't agree with you 100% of the time doesn't mean I'm trying to be an asshole; the purpose of my post was to say that if this does not go through, America will not be dead and turn into a monarchy. It's not a personal attack (although maybe I should have added the phrase "shove that up your ass Democrats" or just thrown something ad hominem and called you a hippie). As stated, you know how I feel about the situation (that Congress already gave up its right to call foul when they gave the President a blank check to go to war with Iraq) and that there are other ways to fix this problems without resolving to impeachment. It's a good debate, but since we've already done this before I don't see a reason to rehash old talking points. So if you want me to just agree with you in the future and not give an honest opinion, maybe I'll do that. But unless you really want to be completely surrounded by people who solely agree with you, it wouldn't be a fun dialogue at all.

I wasn't trying to incite a debate with this thread. I was just relaying the message Kucinich made today and an email I got about the "testify or impeach" thing. You said we've already debated this before and it would be useless to do it again so you replying this topic was completely useless as well. When I read it, I felt like it was a really arrogant "I'm right, you're wrong" statement. And if that is the case, just hit the ignore button and you don't have to see my threads or my posts anymore.
