Widely acknowledged as Wait's best and possibly his most diverse as he covers quite a wide range of genre's throughout this record's 19 tracks.

What's everyone's thoughts on this record? Hopefully you can articulate them a tad better than I just did.

This is my favorite Waits album. "Singapore" is one of my favorite songs ever. Stay classy.

-Anywhere I Lay My Head is one of the greatest album closers I've ever heard.
-Clap Hands is one of my personal favorite Waits songs, and is all around groovy.
-Both instrumentals on the album are good shit.

I love the amount of emotion he puts into Anywhere I Lay My head with his vocal delivery. Fucking intense.

Absolutely. And then the instrumental section at the end, haha. Love it.

Do you listen to much of his other stuff too?

Here and there. I haven't given most of his other albums the listening to they deserve, unfortunately. I'm into plenty of cuts from Orphans, Blood Money, Closing Time, Mule Variations and Small Change. Oh and Nighthawks at the Diner, actually the first Waits album I checked out, is a great album to just put on and chill out to.

Such a great album. Singapore is so, so awesome. Downtown Train, Anywhere I Lay My Head, Gun Street Girl, and Clap Hands are my other favourites.

Never fully got into Waits but like most others here, the album I enjoy most of his discography.

Anything about him you don't like? Any other albums you enjoy?

Not so much things that I dislike but rather a lack of things I do like. Wouldn't really be able to pinpoint specifics though. I appreciate his songwriting prowess and enjoy the music from time to time. Just a matter of rarely going back to his work.

I've got everything from Swordfishtrombones onward but nothing has clicked.

love it, my first outing with waits... whenever that was. took a while for me to get into, but i'm glad it clicked & i got into more of waits' discography. i think what first drew me in was his experimentation with various percussion (me obviously being a big fan of world music). everyone has listed some great songs already, but "big black mariah" & "union square" get me a rockin'

Has this remained your favourite Waits album Craig?

Love this album so much. Especially "Tango Til They're Sore"... basically been addicted to this guy's work lately.

Best part about Waits is no one can agree what the best song is off an album. It's all different for people.

it's still an album i really enjoy & listen to often. but as for favourite waits album, it changes with the mood. he's a man who i don't think has the real highlight point in his career, it seems to be strong right the way through. most of his work is also quite different & distinct from one another too, so comparisons can awkward. but rain dogs, bone machine, orphans, alice, mule variations & blood money, could be my favourite on any given day haha

Currently my favorite Waits song is oddly enough Frank's Wild Years from Swordfishtrombone. It's a track where he just talks but I love it for some reason.

Thank you so much for this recc Micah. I have really, really been enjoying it. Very distinct (awesome) voice to him. So good.

Favorite song at the moment would probably be Clap Hands.
