they are from my hometown, so people just expect me to be into them. but i've never really seen their appeal. the singers seem too monotone and the songs all mush together. i've seen them live and it was so-so.

fans of the band: why are you into them?

Lyrically amazing and the songs are catchy.

I like the fact that they have such a dark tone to their songs.

you really think their lyrics are amazing? how does that one song go?
"step one: slit my throat . . . etc."

doesn't seem that amazing to me

But thats one line to one song...look at the lyrics to songs like Blue in the Face, Warbrain, and every song off of Maybe I'll Catch Fire, the dark imagery that Matt and Dan use throughout their songs is unrivaled.

Is that a Fall Out Boy avatar? Don't even put down Alkaline Trio if you support that bullshit. Alk3 know how to write a catchy song that doesn't sound like your typical teeny pop-punk band.

They may not sound like good lyrics to you but that's because everyone else these days is doing the same shit. They have a great live show and they write incredible lyrics. But they've been doing it for a hell of alot longer than any of these shitty hardcore bands that everyone loves. I own all their albums and I can not honestly say I dislike a single song. This band is deffinetly a diamond in the rough if only for that reason alone. Not to mention they are the nicest band you will ever meet. And Still life is right, you like FOB, you have no say.

each there choch, i never said they suck, i just was wondering what their appeal was. all my friends love them or know them, i'm the odd man out. you don't have to bring FOB into this, you can make another thread about them if you wish. and still_life seems to lead a very sad_life.

Have you ever listened to "Sorry About That" or "You've Got so Far to Go" or "If We Never Go Inside" or "Mr. Chainsaw" I can keep on going if you like.

i've given their whole playlist a whirl (my buddy has every album), nothing really stuck. he's also always got them playing in his dorm so i hear them all the time.

I like Alkaline Trio. They know how write catchy songs, they don't sound like everything else that's out there. Their lyrics are fairly solid most of the time as well.

You listen to Fall Out Boy. Your opinion is void...on anything.

sometimes, when i read your replies, i wish we were having this conversation face to face, because then i could be looking down at you (i know you can't be over 6 feet tall, you seem to have that "short-man's complex" about you) right in your eyes. i would love to see how cool and tough you could act talking about your favorite bands and how they are superior to everyone else's musicial tastes when you aren't hiding behind a keyboard.

but i got to hand it to you, still life really does rock, don't listen to me though, just check out their sweet website http://www.still-life-rock.co.uk/

or maybe it's this still life you're talking about, http://www.thetrc.com/bands/stilllife.htm (note how they mention that they have shared the stage with such notable acts as vanilla ice, now that is hXc)

furthermore, i bet you found this webpage, studied it, and changed your life because of it. all the while forcing yourself to listen to shitty music in an attempt to become cooler http://www.fourfa.com/

best lyrics in the world. (apart from tool)
and the songs are complex and have great choruses.
the both of them (guitarist and bassist) have amazing voices.
the drumming is sublime.

and the songs are complex

I suck horribly at guitar and I can still play some Alkaline Trio songs. They're songs aren't complex at all. Maybe you were thinking of Dillinger Escape Plan.

Edit: Their, not They're.

OMG, you're like, tall. You must be cool then right? I've talked down on other's taste in music, no matter who they are or how big they are. It's not like it's an important topic that someone's going to get mad about. Give me a break.

Neither of those bands are the right Still Life. Just two bands that ripped off their name from a great band that came well before them.

I was listening to bands on fourfa.com before I even found fourfa.com. If you're going to try and put someone in their place, better have some better ammo next time.

Saying their songs are complex doesn't mean they have to be really technical. He could just mean the way they add many different bridges and verses, and dual vocals and all that. I don't really think Alk3 are complex, but they're not your average simplistic pop-punk band.

Hahahahaha, you thinking those two bands were the real still life is hilarious. One of the bands I believe formed in 2003? Please do not say you know what you are talking about ever again.

Well when I think complex I always think of Yngwie Malmsteen or Joe Satriani or some other type of extremely technical musician or band. I agree with you that Alkaline Trio are much better than "your average simplistic pop-punk band" but I say that because of the reasons I stated earlier in this thread.

I understand where you're coming from, people think that if a band is from your hometown that you automatically need to support them...someone I know likes Alkaline trio a lot, and he got mad at me because I didn't particularly like them...i think it's just a bunch of bs

I will say that Matt Skiba does have a pretty good voice though

I have always loved the way Alk3 sounded. Ever since I first hear them.

I have no idea why they are so awesome, they just are. They lyrics are dark and appeal to me much more then some lyrics out there but i just find them good for some reason or another.
