Her Space Holiday - Sleepy Tigers
Record Label: Mush Records
Release Date: July 7, 2008

Marc Bianchi is a simple pop mastermind. In the vein of whistling while strolling to class, or a walk in the park with that special someone under the summer sun, Bianchi creates an atmospheric feeling of an easy life we wished sometimes would hang over our hustled-and-bustled ones. While the back catalog is more computer based, Bianchi is opening himself up to a less artificial, but as impressive sound.

Sleepy Tigers is an accompany to Her Space Holiday's upcoming release, XOXO Panda and the New Kid Revival, next month. Ditching the keyboard and mouse antics, it sounds like Bianchi has been just jamming some folk out on the back porch.

"Sleepy Tigers" is an upbeat clapper that's as innocent in sound and lyrics as the sandbox school yard crushes of old. "Just Another Day" slowly brings in more instrumentation with each phrase, again upbeat and sure to be a favorite with the Juno Soundtrack fans. Bianchi even breaks melody for a spoken bridge. "This Seat is Taken" is as simple and rhythmic as the four strings you'll hear on the ukulele.

Old school Holiday fans shouldn't be turned off yet - those electronic moments you loved make a guest appearance in the closer "Same Song Sing Along," whose title is bluntly perfect, and should end up giving Bianchi a guest spot on "Sesame Street."

Sleepy Tigers has me very excited for the upcoming full-length release. Sure, the songs are so simple that after a few listens, this album will more than likely turn into "a revisit every now and then," but here's to a glorious sound to end out those summer days.

The Format's Dog Problems; Jason Mraz's Waiting for My Rocket to Come; Juno Soundtrack

I bought this EP the day it came out slightly knowing what it was going to sound like and, i have to admit, I just can't get into it as much as the older stuff. This is not because it's a bad four songs. It's just that I've become so accustomed to HSH's electronic sound ('The Young Machines' is perfection). Granted, his music has been changing ever since he started putting out albums so another change in direction was to be expected, but I guess i've just gotten used to the artificial sounds and beats. Who knows...maybe i'll soften up to it by the time the LP comes out. The guy can make music...that's for sure.

Either way, nice review. Glad to see another HSH fan on here.
