View Full Version : Anyone up for a last.fm experiment?

For those of you who are members on last.fm, and are members of the absolutepunk group, you may be all too familiar with the fact that Brand New has been number 1 every week for as long as some people have even been members on that site. My plan is to change that, at least for a week. Since the group is based on the amount of listeners, rather than the amount listened, all that we need to do is agree on a band that we could listen to only one time during this week or next week.

The first step is agreeing on the band. We could use any band we wanted, we just have to pick one. So is anyone else interested in doing this? I mean I love Brand New, but let's make another band king for the week!

The top 5 bands people post will go towards a poll that I'll make in another thread, then we can try and see if this will actually work. If we get enough posts, I'll make the poll after this thread gets at least 200 replies.

I could always make a date, and that would be the day that everyone would listen to the one song by whichever artist/band we pick.

I'd be down for that.

Sorry if that last post seemed aggressive. I like the Format so it wasn't anything personal. I just think it'd be cool if it wasn't another predictable artist for AP.net #1

The Replacements
Portugal. The Man
2pac
Converge
Hot Cross
Wu-Tang Clan

Are a few we have to go on so far. Either keep throwing ideas out, or agree with some of the above choices.

I think The Replacements would actually be a cool band to see reach number 1.

Ok, so I think it's pretty clear that we have it down between Elvis Costello and The Replacements as of now. I say that we set the date for Thursday, August 14 to listen to either. I'll take a few more suggestions before I make the poll, but since there's still more time, keep throwing more suggestions/back one of the two.

Yeah I'm totally on the Jawbreaker bandwagon now.

Jawbreaker's the bandwagon to jump onto, mark my words!

Ugh, X103 is not g00d haha. I can't picture the people I know who listen to that station digging Gaslight.

Ha, you never know. They might get into it, but my sister's boyfriend called to let me know that they just played a Gaslight song. So maybe they think that it'd be their best bet to get them played around here. Can you picture them on Radio Now? Nope!

:shudder:

I'm sorry, but I cannot stand anime. Art school ruined it for me.

I'm just going to listen to all my Wu-Tang Clan, Bone Thugs, and 2pac so they will be the top 3.

I listened to Xavier Rudd like 500 times one week and they didn't even show up on the list. How does that work?

Anthony Lutz

Ok, so here's our main three we're going for:

Jawbreaker
The Replacements
Elvis Costello

I'll put a poll up on here in a minute (literally) but these are the main ones that we'll go for. All you have to do is listen to each of these bands at least ONE TIME and that's literally all it takes. We just need enough people to do it, that's it!

allhourcymbals
08/11/08, 07:10 PM
Why not do all three?

allhourcymbals
08/11/08, 07:11 PM
Or we could pick five and people could pick and choose?

That works too. If it's accessible for you, go for it! The main idea is to try and stick to just one, so that everyone has a "main one" to go off of, rather than a bunch of different, so it isn't as confusing.

Who wants to listen to the same band that much though, you know?

They just need to listen to one song :-p Last.fm groups add up the number of PEOPLE who have played a song by that band, not how many total songs by a band have been played.

You know what we really should do then. Make a mix tape and get everyone to listen to it. It'd never work, but in theory, it's pretty bangin'.

Silent Hill 2 is the only one I care for. I was thinking a Zelda or Mario game. Even Chrono Trigger, Jet Set Radio, or the Metal Gear series.
