Frankly though, I doubt the argument that every song other than those two is spectacularly different. They chose "I Can Get Sexual Too" to be their single, their face to newcomers that would hear them on the radio or see their music video. If this is what they use to attract new listeners I'm pretty sure I don't want to hear what the bulk of their work sounds like.

I'm no metal kid, and I know there is much more to music than technical proficiency at an instrument, but writing and playing simple parts should be an artistic choice, not a requirement because you don't know enough about your instrument to do any better.

Bands usually don't get to choose their singles. And that song is supposed to be taken as a joke. It was on an EP, not even an album, and just about all of the songs on that EP were supposed to be taken lightly and were written very tongue in cheek. Check out their first album, "...Is a Real Boy", which is actually vastly different from "I Can Get Sexual" and then tell me if you still hate them. And I've got nothing to say in Shiksa's defense. That just wasn't one of the better songs on the album. Actually, the album really didn't have that many good songs.

I think they're a pretty good band and it's a shame that most people judge them based on that one single.

Almost as annoying as the kids that claim Bemis is a great songwriter. Delay pedal or not, Erak stomps a lot of guitarists. He's definitely not the best, probably not even great, but he's very good.

I listened through IARB, and while I can't say I hate Say Anything as much as I did before, I can say that it is undeserving of the hype it gets (especially Bemis' lyrics). The lyrics aren't the witty poetry that they're made out to be, and their sound is fairly generic. I'd give it a B- or C+

Some of their stuff sounds similar to The Matches. Fans of Say Anything should check out Decomposer.

Frankly though, I doubt the argument that every song other than those two is spectacularly different. They chose "I Can Get Sexual Too" to be their single, their face to newcomers that would hear them on the radio or see their music video. If this is what they use to attract new listeners I'm pretty sure I don't want to hear what the bulk of their work sounds like.



I am not 15, nor did I ever say in any form or fashion that Thomas Erak was the greatest guitarist in the world or that TFOT was the best band ever. In fact, I never even said that TFOT was better than Say Anything. I never even MENTIONED TFOT All of you raging Say Anything fans dug through my profile to find bands I liked to attack them.

I will say this though: TFOT recorded Doppelganger over their spring break during their junior year in high school. I would like to see the Say Anything guitarist (or drummer or bassist) try to play any of the songs off that CD. I'm no metal kid, and I know there is much more to music than technical proficiency at an instrument, but writing and playing simple parts should be an artistic choice, not a requirement because you don't know enough about your instrument to do any better.
If you want to try and shit on our music without hearing it, we have every right to attack yours. Especially when I've listened to it. Stop trying to be cool and sit the fuck down bucko.

Almost as annoying as the kids that claim Bemis is a great songwriter. Delay pedal or not, Erak stomps a lot of guitarists. He's definitely not the best, probably not even great, but he's very good.

I listened through IARB, and while I can't say I hate Say Anything as much as I did before, I can say that it is undeserving of the hype it gets (especially Bemis' lyrics). The lyrics aren't the witty poetry that they're made out to be, and their sound is fairly generic. I'd give it a B- or C+

Some of their stuff sounds similar to The Matches. Fans of Say Anything should check out Decomposer.

I won't be so much of a dick from now on, assuming all of Say Anything sounded like "I Can Get Sexual" was a mistake.
Bemis' lyrics are witty and ironic and just kind of different, I measn Say Anything is in no way an amazing band, but they are a really fun listen and they sound good.

say anything is a pop rock band. there's never in the history of the genre been a band that gets hyped based on their proficiency in regards to their music. Pop music has, since day one, been about writing catchy choruses that will leave people with that song stuck in their head. Say Anything accomplishes this very well. Are their lyrics witty? No. Are they deep and or meaningful? Not really. Could I sing every song off of IARB after 3 listens? Yes, because their catchy hooks were stuck in my head.

Say Anything plays pop rock and does it extremely well. If that's not what you look for in music, then you clearly aren't going to like it.
