I think the definition of punk is too vast to catagorize things now adays. Ian Mackaye's definition of punk surprises people, to include basically anything that that pushes the limits of what's being done. He's been making music since at least the year I was born, learn from your elders. And does anyone listen to K Records (http://www.kpunk.com)? Basement Punk? If you've heard Dub Narcotic Sound System you know it's not punk in the vein of whatever this guy's listening too. So then what is Calvin Johnson's Basement Punk? Sure, you may find it unusual, but I have yet to find the rulebook that states what musical tastes are acceptable with each interest we all may have.
