So i've been going on lately a lot about how incredible Green Day are live...that they have amazing stage presence and great energy including great crowd participation in their set. I want to know who people think is the best live band.

Thrice, and I'm willing to fight anyone who may disagree.
Thrice are good live but i wouldn't say the best.

thursday... if you dont think they are you deserve a smack in the face... it's not only about stage presence but about sounding tight & actually FEELING it... and these guys excell at everything point
also, i dont care if you like em, but back in the day when it was just chris w/his acoustc, dc used to be what it was all about: a small venue w/everyone singing along & feeling it & getting into it
i really wish i could have seen the show where geoff was spitting up blood but still going on... i'd pay so much money to that show
and stevie ray vaughan & double trouble just captivate me in every live clip i've seen of em... there's a reason why i own all their dvds lol

geoff was off & on? during that show??? well i think just seeing him like practically dying on stage & still trying to sing & go on would just be kind of amazing
tbs is good live too, and so is a-f

living where I do I've barely seen anything live, but Thursday was fucking awesome, as was NFG. I love The Fullblast live too, and so sue me, but Simple Plan know what they're doing when it comes to getting the crowd going and putting on a good show.

really? i've never heard that from anyone before, but then again i don't know of one band that has ALWAYS been on, ya know? everyband has a few bad shows
but i've seen (i have like 30) live records of em & they dont sound bad in any of em, but oh well.. i thought they kept getting better & better every show, personally.
ya, "this song...." definately was awesome when he sung it

Seeing Geoff sucking it up is nothing I would like to pay for. In fact, I didn't have to when they were on last night tv last year (I don;t recall the host) and played War All The Time after their tour with co&ca and Thrice. It hurt my ears. The last time I saw Thursday, they sucked. They used to be good though.
Best band I've ever seen live is probably Moneen.

oh ya, i'll agree it didn't sound good, u got a point there. but like i said, every band has their bad days
and i find it weird but i've seen lots of bands sound pretty bad on that one host (i'm pretty sure it's conan you're talking about, i have the video let me dig it up)

i think something corporate put on one hell of a show. konstantine was worth the 16 dollars alone. matchbook romance and yellowcard put on damn good shows as well

When Matchbook Romance comes home to Poughkepsie they always put on a good show.

i'll keep saying Green day before any of these bands and i've seen a LOT of bands live. Smashing Pumpkins where incredible live aswell. Dashboard and SoCo own the crowd to when they're on point.

Saves The Day or Moneen are the best bands that I've personally seen.
Of the bands I've seen, I'd have to say Hot Rod Circuit and Thursday are the two best live bands I've ever seen.
I've heard Moneen has an amazing live show.
Motion City Soundtrack are pretty fun live.

I've got to agree; TBS just plain rocks live..so much fun, so much energy.
Also whoever said the Matches...YES! they are fantastic live..
I'd also like to add that everytime i see blink 182 live they are awesome. Even if you may not like them; they are great musicians.
Strive, I'm not sure if anyone knows who this band was, but the twice I saw them, excellent. Transfigurations is one of the coolest seen live songs ever.

actually, if you read alot of the things they did on the new album, it'd blow your mind... they came up w/so many awesome ideas on how to record things, etc i was extremely impressed & can now honestly say i think they're pretty good musicians

you know...I don't understand why mark hoppus's basslines got worse and worse after every passing album...the basslines were so great around buddah and chesire...even some songs in dude ranch had nifty bass lines (voyeur, josie)...oh well
best band I've seen live...Strike Anywhere

I agree...i think most people don't give them the credit they deserve...they've been around a long time and can really play.

it has a lot to due to the fact that they're a 3 piece band, the fact that he sings & harmony...
but one some of his tracks he has numberous bass lines & even used this old like bass guitar that had a really deep tone because the tuning was different... that takes some skill right there

I've never seen more energy from a bands frontman. And the rest of the band just goes off as well. It's one hell of a fun time seeing these guys live.

Best live band in order from first to last (this is just my top 5):
1. Recover
2. The Bled
3. Every Time I Die
4. Letter Twelve
5. At All Costs
in this order:
The Mars Volta. Some people loved them when I saw them, some people hated them. I loved them because they played a 2 hour show without stopping for after any song, and without talking. They danced their asses off, and made the show a blast. They also played a ton of improv stuff that I thought was tons of fun. People didn't like them because they didn't really finish any songs, they would play like half a song go into 15 mins of improv, and then into another song. I loved them.
Reggie & The Full Effect. I must say, I'm not all that into Reggie anymore. I never really listened to their new stuff, but i used to like their old albums a lot. When I saw these guys I wasn't sure what to expect. When they came to the stage they were in costumes, which I thought set the atmoshpere. When they played, they blew me away! Reggie & The Full Effect have POWER when they play! The songs that sound all wussy on album, get beefed up live to a stature that could take on Slipknot. They rocked so hard.
Saves The Day. I have seen these guys 5 times and every time I fall in love with them again. The first couple of times I saw them Chris would send the rest of the band off stage in the middle of the set and break out an acoustic and play a couple acoustic songs, then the band would come back for the rest of the show. They have energy like crazy, you can't help but sing along and dance.

I loved the two times I saw Dashboard.
Once again, my vote goes to Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl has you by the balls the entire time, from massive moshing to Monkey Wrench to heartbreak all over again to Aurora and then to the traditional ending with Everlong, best rock song ever written. And Nate, Chris and Tay are just incredible musicians.
When I saw them in '02 (http://www.foofighters.com/blackbox/entry.php?id=23) (Seems so long ago)
Im in there somewhere ;)

The Mars Volta are fucking amazing live. I have never actually seen them, but I have seen videos.
Same with At The Drive In, they fucking capture, create and spit out so much fucking energy you probably lose yourself at their shows. Just hearing the complexity of their music and intertwining vocals has got to drive you nuts.

nothin beats DKM at warped when you have people with the flags...I heard once that a guy showed up with a full coat of armor or something...but yes...crazy drunken irishmen rule.

Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake are great live, and the Living End is amazing. Chris Cheney is fucking incredible, and he does every guitar solo dead on. Actually, I saw Sum 41 right after they release Does This Look Infected, and they were pretty damn good too. I had seen them before and they were alright, but they fucking rocked the second time. Incubus is also sweet...
