That would be extremely cool, if you could un layer a track. Yea someone find one of those, if they exist

ive never heard of anything like that, i doubt it exists unless the song you have is specifically made to be in parts, i dont think its possible. that would be pretty cool though, i'd use it every once in a while
try turning the bass and way up and down or vice versa, you can hear seperate things a little better that way

its not possible, either coming from an mp3 or a cd. Songs are mixed on the album. Ya cant do it.

That sucks, I'd like to be able to pick apart songs and be able to clearly hear the bass lines.

just turn the bass way up, and everything else way down, it sounds kinda shitty but you can tell whats going on a little easier

I play bass, i understand itd be a great tool, especially for an insturment buried in the mix, like the bass. Basically, the only way you could get a single instrument is if you had the copies of the actual recording, like hard drive data. Once its on CD form though, its gone.

i know i'm gonna sound prickish but: learn to use your ear & develop it... you should spend time focusing on that than finding a program

some great advice...it'll happen soon (I should I know, I play bass and you BARELY hear any of it especially in today's bands that focus so much on treble) but you really do learn to hear out basslines in songs..heck, I listen to some songs and now I hear so much bass that I have to struggle to hear the guitar parts.
heh
but go to powertabs.net...download the program and some people tab out all the lines in songs (cept drum line) but you can sometimes tinker with it just to hear a certain part...it's kool.

ah you play drums eh? hmm...well one of the best things you can do is just do it by ear...you can try using mxtabs.net but I dunno...they do have a forum there so ask around there.
what I have noticed is that like...guitarist can easily cover songs (so many good tabs available), bass...at least with me I can cover a bunch but now I just make up my own stuff or make up basslines for other songs...and drummers...well I dunno any...heh. Good luck dude...keep playing and train the ear.

definetly play by ear. Its so important. I agree with richter though, its really hard to hear the bass in alot of new albums, but, oh well, what can ya do?

i dont think it is at all. The only bass i wish would be louder is in my mixing, that's the only time i've been reallly dissapointed w/bass & mixes lol... Bass is starting to be more emphasized than it used to be, so I think the opposite
