Awesome, awesome book. I've read it twice and been considering reading it again. I missed a few things the first time.
Also, you have good tastes. This book, LTJ, Straylight, Brand New and Pulp Fiction. Quality choices.

i read it, the only other book i've read that comes to mind that is even remotely similiar is the little prince (in terms of a charcter being so nice you could punch them) but they aren't really the same thing at all in the end.

I've read it. There are a few books out there that MTV puts out like "Perks" there should be a list in the back of the book. I remember there is one called "The Fuck Up" or something like that..
I honestly couldn't get past the first five pages. That book was excruciating. And it's not because of a short attention span or anything because I've read Fitzgerald, Marquez and Wilde and read those books and enjoyed them immensely.
By the way all of you should read "The Outsiders" probably one of the best books you will ever read.
Yes. The Outsiders is a classic.
Anyone with a brain in their head will realize the greatness of that book.

I know some people that like it and I know some people that think it's overrated. I've never read it and most likley never will. I'm not too much of a book person, only when I'm really intrested in one to I ever read it. But just because alot of people have read it and liked it, doesn't mean it's good. I mean look at all the shit that's popular in music these days. I'll take a look at it maybe but I'm pretty sure this is just another overhyped thing, like alot of shit on here.
*edit*
I didn't notice "OC" in your user name. That explains alot.

i don't have oc in my user name because of some stupid tv show, i have it in there because the city i live in is called oak creek. you shouldn't go on assuming things because then when you are wrong you look like an idiot, also 'the outsiders' is great. and just because i like this book doesn't mean i don't as well like classics. two of my favorites are:
-1984 by george orwell
-catcher in the rye by jd salinger
also, read chuck palahniuk

Well after I made the previous statement you said "The Classic?" with a little laughing emoticon. So I'm assuming that you thought it was dumb book and not worthy of the title of a classic book. Which would only prove to me that you are a moron.
By the way, loved Catcher in the Rye, liked the language and metaphors used in 1984 but damn near fell asleep while reading it.
And Chuck Palahuniuk is a one trick writer, all the characters have some type of mental quirk and the story ensues as such. Gets kinda boring if you ask me.

Perks is my favourite book. Nothing else compares to it.
I'm not sure if someone else already mentioned this (I'm too lazy to read the other posts) but Stephen Chbosky is planning on making a movie out of it, which is both exciting and a bit heartbreaking. I hope he doesn't make it all "hollywood" and ruin it.

perks is definitely one of my alltime favs... i've read it about 6 times.
i recommend "hairstyles of the damned" by joe meno.
it also connects different music/pop culture, plus it's kind of continuing with the "growing up" theme.
catcher in the rye, definitely.
hmm... "the lovely bones" by alice sebold is also very good...
and "too much of nothing" by michael scott moore.

i read it before it was even overrated and i still found it overrated by how much a small amount of people were raving about it. it's not well written or interesting.

Terrible writing. Bland, overdone story.
I read it once, and that's enough for me.
Read David Eggers, not this.

its basically a book that emo kids love because it validats them. the main character is so naive that he's completely implausible. yeah, this book is weak.

It was a decent book, but I would of found it much better if the book would have ended with the main character killing himself. The whole time I was reading it I thought it was going down that route, I was pretty disappointed.
Perhaps I thought someone that naive should just kill themselves, i dont know.

this book is amazing. i read it in high school and i won't say it changed my life, but it made me think differently about a lot of things. i love it.
also, "the curious incident of the dog in the night time" is very similar and just as good except its a lot funnier.
Bump, because I've rediscovered how much I like this book, and other people should too.

You're 17 that's the time when you should rediscover '1984' and not The perks of being a wallflower.

I'm 17. I don't need anyone telling what I should or shouldn't be rediscovering. I'll read whatever I fucking please, thank you.

I think it's awesome to see this because you must've been 16 when you wrote this. It's cool to see how you've matured intellectually.
This book is such a fun book for being 14 or 15.
One of my favorite books. As cliché as it sounds, I probably wouldn't have checked out The Smiths if it wasn't for this book.

I want to recommend it to my little sister, but I can't remember if its got anything graphic in it, (she's only 13). Should I wait a couple more years to tell her about it?

Read Perks in high school cuz a friend recommended it, it was decent nothing too mind blowing.
I just read Love is a Mixtape last month, definitely and interesting read. I like the idea of rehashing the past through your mixtapes. Rob Sheffield seems like a sweet dude, i recognized him from VH1 shit.
I've never read the book, but it seems to be a favorite among the scene kids at my HS. This might be why I've been avoiding it for so long...
