i never see any chatter about this wonderful folk singer/songwriter, which is a great shame since he's one of my favourites in recent years. last years album was brilliant, this years was a different vibe, but of equal quality. i know some of you are thinking "that's all very well & good, but most of this stuff you talk about is hard to find el jeffe", but he even makes it easy for you guys, by putting up most of his music online for free download or stream. & i know you're now thinking "well that's fine, but online music is usually crap quality", but he takes care of that too, all decent quality. haha no excuses!
now why check it out? cause the music is soo gentle & paints some gorgeous pictures, with the lyrics slowly rolling through your mind, enchanting. it's almost as if you're laying on the shore, with the pacific ocean laying before you, watching the sun extinguish itself on the horizon, into the soft escape of dreamland. his soft hypnotic voice creates such a compelling & trembling emotional feel, singing with a strong poetic virtue. i've always found sam pickering to be a fresh take on a now washed out genre/sound
links to last years pacific ocean (http://static.rateyourmusic.com/listen/?album_id=895215), & this years a twitch upon the thread (http://static.rateyourmusic.com/listen/?album_id=1562759)
any fans, share some love & discussion?

haha understandable, fat freddy's are pretty bloody awesome
umm that's a tough one, to be very vague, i guess some people could make comparisons to all sorts of mellow folk music out there right now, but a more expansive comparison would be rather tough. great mellow folk singer/songwriter, with a good deal of depth weaved through his usually sparse sound. but it's his inclusion of subtle wordly sounds & almost a feeling that his albums have been recorded outdoors. there's something so natural about them all. you can stream his albums before downloading, might be a good start mate?

Yeah, I'll get on that. By the way, what's the best starter album for Crowded House? And are Tim Finn's self titled or Escapade worth the download?

I've only heard A Twitch Upon The Thread and it didn't do much for me.

crowded house never released a bad album, well nothing the finns have been apart of is bad. but woodface & together alone are my favourites & great starting points
tim finn's self titled is soo good. not sure how escapade would sit with you though. but definitely the self titled, even has a reggae number on there haha

Alright htanks!
I've been also thinking lately that it's impossible to find Beres Hammond's albums online! Haha. All I have is love from a distance. I did have his greatest hits, but I deleted it because.. I dislike greatest hits! Rockaway is my ringtone :-p

haha nothing quite like that first ever trip to the cd shop mate. but music is life (the album "rock away" hails from) & in control might be your jam. if everything there really clicks, perhaps sweetness & love has no boundaries too. glad you have love from a distance though, damn fine record
