Marilyn Manson hosted the MTV: Icon tribute to the Cure (http://www.thecure.com) that was taped 09.17 at Old Billingsgate Market in London, England, as musicians offered their respects to the 26-year-old alternative rock band. According to BBC News, Manson led a crowd of 1,000 through a series of musical and video flashbacks, punctuated by performances from Blink-182, A.F.I., and Deftones. Blink performed 'A Letter To Elise' and was then joined by Cure founder Robert Smith for 'All Of This,' from the punk trio's latest, self-titled album. Smith also appeared on the studio version. A.F.I. played 'Just Like Heaven,' while the Deftones provided 'If Only Tonight We Could Sleep.' British act Razorlight also appeared, covering 'Boys Don't Cry.' The evening finished up with a performance from the Cure themselves. The MTV: Icon tribute to the Cure will air on MTV's U.K. channel on 10.31. A U.S. airdate has not been scheduled yet.

I really want to hear the AFI cover.

Did you read the article in AP where Davy interviewed Robert Smith? Talk about icon...

I've got an acoustic song that sounds like Adam Lazzarra playing Just Like Heaven....it's simply amazing. Any confirmation on whether its TBS?

yeah, that "Just Like Heaven" cover is Taking Back Sunday.
i, myself, did my own little cover of "Just Like Heaven" out of boredom. check it out, if you want.

you must be fucking retarded. chino could probably do the best imitation of rob smiths voice. the deftones are the closest to the cure out of all three of those bands.

I dont know about the cure's icon, but, on the other two, the artist were asked who they would like to do the performances. is that holds true with this one then the cure asked blink to cover a song.

then does that mean that Metallica chose Avril Lavign and Snoop Dog to cover their songs?!?! i doubt it. Mtv picks the artist. the only reason blink is on that is because Robert Smith lent his vocals to blink's last album.

You can download Blink's performance on blink-182online. I personally think they did well...and they played "A Letter to Elise" as well as "All of This". Enjoy. :)
