"A comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college grad (Eisenberg) who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world."

Greg Motolla (of Superbad fame) is directing, and it stars Ryan Reynolds, Bill Hader, Martin Starr, among others. Has a release date of April 3rd.

The main reason why I'm posting this, is because I've been there countless times.

It seems like it could be decent.

Holy crap in a hat... based on the LI Adventureland? That's incredible.

The chainsaw guy outside the haunted house better have a prominent role.

Edit: They're filming it in a different amusement park in Pittsburgh. Bah.

Hahahaha. My cousin from Long Island worked at Adventureland when he was in college.

Robb

I once had a close shave with a chainsaw.

But the timing of this is a bit odd for me, since I hadn't found out about this movie until tonight. Last week, I got hit with the nostalgia bug, and spent hours on Google, looking up all sorts of sites about Nunley's.

lindZ629
08/16/08, 11:13 PM
My brother worked at Adventureland for one summer. He was the change guy in the arcade.

I'm still pissed they got rid of Surf Dance and Shooting Star. The Haunted House, I'll say it, is an epic ride.

Also, they filmed part of Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore here.

Robb
08/16/08, 11:17 PM
Damn, I didn't realize Surf Dance was gone. I only knew the Shooting Star was gone because I no longer saw it as part of the Adentureland skyline as I would drive by... those two rides were bad ass.

But yeah, the haunted house was where it was at. I always loved the certainly non-legal use of the pictures of Freddy and Eddie from Iron Maiden at the beginning of the ride... You're Next!

I work in Farmingdale, and will go to the Target next door to Adventureland occasionally. It always makes me want to just take the rest of the day off, buy a P.O.P., and just run wild there like the ten year old version of myself.

lindZ629
08/16/08, 11:21 PM
It was always one of the trips my camp went on, so as a camper and a counselor I was able to go run wild there. I get tired of it after an hour though.

I'd like to know why their website is so nice for such a mediocre park.
http://www.adventureland.us/themepark/

Robb
08/16/08, 11:23 PM
Hahaha check out their default picture for the Haunted House.

If that doesn't epitomize the clientele at Adventureland, I don't know what does.

And check the description: "HAUNTED HOUSE - You will be Spooked and Scared in the Haunted House." Enticing.

lindZ629
08/16/08, 11:29 PM
hahahaha I also like that it's listed under "thrill rides"

I mean I constantly get campers too afraid to go on, but that doesn't mean it's thrilling.

Robb
08/16/08, 11:31 PM
Talk about underselling. It should have its own category: Melt Your Face With Awesomeness, Then Deafen You With That Loud Horn At The End

But no joke, that ride used to scare the hell out of be as a kid. Admittedly, I was a late bloomer when it came to not being a ride wimp. I was scared of haunted houses and especially roller coasters until I was like, 11. Then almost overnight I couldn't get enough of them.

lindZ629
08/16/08, 11:34 PM
Don't forget the dripping blood!

Na I remember getting out of the ride when I was 11 or 12 and walking along side it in the dark. I was cool.

Robb
08/16/08, 11:53 PM
I did that too on a field trip in 7th grade. They took my P.O.P. away, but I just got one from someone in my class who wasn't going on any rides.

My friend's saw an advanced screening of the original director's cut a while back and said it was pretty phenomenal. They highly recommended it to me, and I trust them. However, they saw was really long and was probably going to be cut down a bit, and they "hope they don't neuter the best parts."

It doesn't exactly keep the laughs coming, but if you are looking for a good story with some strong performances and genuine characters then it's great.

I really liked it. It definitely wasn't the huge comedy the trailers made it out to be (someone needs to fire the idiots doing trailers lately) but it was definitely a good movie. It reminded me of those feel-good comedies of the late 80's and early 90's that really made you feel for the characters and what was happening because it was so relatable and likeable. It wasn't raunchy or anything and while it didn't have huge LOL moments, it was a winner.

Great movie, I loved it. I love the balance of drama and comedy. Every cast member was great. I can understand why they marketed this movie like Superbad, but it is truly nothing like it. Stewart was great. Hader and Wiig were great as expected. I enjoyed Jesse Eisenberg, he did a fine job, although he seemed to be channeling his inner Michael Cena a little too much. Best movie of 2009 thus far.

I Love You Man was better than this movie. I just don't see it. I grew up on/adore those late 80s early 90s flicks everyone keeps referencing, and while this film tries to be a modernized version, I wasn't sold. As far as playing their roles, how is (barely) "playing" two awkward, stoned out teens outside of Eisenberg and Stewart's actual life. The one thing I can say, as a person who loathes RR, I felt he did a great job actually acting and playing it cool

So far it made less than 3 million Friday so it will make less than 10 million the whole weekend. Its sucks because shitty Fast and the Furious will makes 10 times that amount and a good movie like Adventureland will bomb. Hopefully word of mouth spreads and it becomes a hit on DVD. people complain about the marketing but if iit wasn't marketed that way it probably would have done a lot worse
http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/

bummer. there was a huge line for fast and furious and only a handful of people for adventureland. sigh. but yeah hopefully word of mouth helps it out later on.

It was filmed in Pittsburgh and the Adventureland in this movie is actually Kennywood Park (which I live very close to and it is where alot of my friends work at). I remember hearing about this movie a couple of years ago becaise it was on the local news and stuff.

Saw this last night. I loved it. However, I may have loved it simply for the fact that I grew up 20 minutes from Kennywood (the theme park used as Adventureland)...it did have some really funny moments, like the part where Frigo, James and Joel are sitting on the hill towards the end and Frigo tells James not to pass out from drinking all the beers, cause he'll jack off on his faceand I could just connect with the characters. Will be seeing this again, mainly because I work at a movie theatre and get it for free.

Haha I know exactly what you mean. I actually read the book a while before the movie came out to appease my sisters and know what everyone was obsessing about. The movie was so cheesy and overly dramatic-that scene when the fan blows Bella's scent over to Edward in bio class is so overacted. saw this flick yesterday. It's easy to call this movie cliche, but I think it's actually a painstakingly crafted recreation of teenage life. I actually felt a little guilty because I related to it so much. And because I'm cynical I wanted to call it bad. Or I wanted to call it a mixture of every coming-of-age movie idea jumbled together. But isn't that how it is? Aren't our formative years the time when everything happens? Maybe not in one summer, but definitely in the timespan. And the question of moving on for the sake of it or moving because it's genuinely better for you is one that i've struggled with to no end.

It was great. I never want to watch movies again, but I want to see this one again.

Even if he's not knocking him off (I know he's not because I'm a fan of his previous work), the work he does in this film is very similar to Cera and given Cera's new found notoriety its the first thing that tends to come to mind. This film will be a staple in my collection once it comes out on DVD. Loved it for so many reasons.

My cousin went to go see this and she said she thought it was a horrible movie. I really liked it.

I didn't like it as much as most. There wasn't much about it that I thought couldn't be improved.

Idiots on my floor hated it. They were mad at me for telling them to see this over Observe and Report. "Why would they even cast Ryan Reynolds in that role? He wasn't even funny!"

I haven't seen this yet, but my friend got electrocuted right next to me in Kennywood (The place it was filmed). It was the top 5 funniest things in my life. I was originally sitting in the seat he got electrocuted in, and I forced him to ride with me and I gave him my original seat. I had to help him walk to get help. Hilarious

Ryan Reynolds wasn't but I don't know if that was the idea. I still haven't seen Observe and Report, not sure if I will.

Kennywood is awesome.

For people who've never been to the park and live within a couple hours, go.

This movie's so funny! My friend thought it was boring and wanted to leave, but I adored it.
Ryan Reynolds=comedic gold.
