View Full Version : Why has it taken me so long to get into Anberlin?

My God, I love this band. The sad thing is that up until a few weeks ago, "The Feel Good Drag" and "Godspeed" was the extent of my knowledge of them. Then I started listening to Lost Songs, and I finally saw them at Warped yesterday. I just finished listening to Blueprints and Cities just a few minutes ago. Stephen's voice used to annoy the hell out of me. Now I love it.

So tell me, AP, why has it taken me so long to finally enjoy this amazing band?

Cities was just a huge step forward from Blueprints and NTFP. the first two showed potential, but the third fulfilled it, and i can see it being easier to appreciate the first two after hearing the third.

as for the voice thing, i have no idea. all i know is that his vocals on "Fin" are glorious.

I'm in the same boat. If you had asked me to say what genre Anberlin fitted into i would've said Metal only a few weeks ago...

Fast forward and i now own Lost Songs and Cities, both records I'm absolutely in love with and now i cannot wait until the 30th of September to pick up their latest release.

Dismantle. Repair is amazing. I have this song to thank for making me realise that Anberlin are so much better than what i once thought them to be.

Their set at Warped this year was fantastic. I don't want to sound like I am bragging, but my friend (who was working the tour) took me backstage for it and it was so freaking good. Definitely one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

Personally, I really liked them in the beginning, but I didn't LOVE them until Cities. That album is so good from start to finish, really. I really can't wait for the new release, either. It's definitely one of my most anticipated of '08.

I didn't really enjoy them until I heard Paperthin Hymn on a video on Youtube. Then I started looking them up, and bought Never Take Friendship Personal and Cities. They're sort of a mood band for me. I have to want to listen to them, its hard to just stumble on to.

because you haven't listened to enough bands similar to Anberlin to have already acquired a taste for their type of music.

Yes. And?

How could it take long to get into a band like Anberlin (the most accessible type of music there is)?

lol I honestly am not very well acquainted with Anberlin. That was just my answer because it is usually my answer when someone asks me why a certain band took a while to grow on them. It kind of makes sense, right? If he listens to a band now that is fairly similar to Anberlin, he is liable to like them relatively quickly.
