Tweakbird - Reservations
Record Label: Volcom
Release Date: September 12, 2008
Who?
Two brothers from Carbondale, IL (Caleb and Ashton Bird) looking to get the lead out.
How is it?
It could be worse, but it could be a whole lot better too. While the guitar and drums are moving in an awesome, Death From Above 1979 direction, they occasionally fall into clumsy classic rock territory, as demonstrated on the opener “Shivers.” The vocals are totally unexciting, and only serve to make the group sound more like Heart. It really is a shame, because some of these grooves are really awesome, particularly “Whorses,” which falls into a noise freakout Steve Albini would be proud of. This is a group that I think will make better music ... but this isn’t it (also, the title track is a noise segue - who does that?). You can’t help but wish something would happen to raise Reservations out of its rut of remaining nothing but average.
01. Shivers
02. God Help Us
03. Whorses
04. Reservations
05. Spaceships
06. Favorite Sun
07. Eternal Squaredance
Death from Above 1979; Kyuss; Heart
