That's mostly why I created this thread. You'd think an Eminem thread would've been made like two years ago.

There was nothing good about it to me. He changed up his flow and honeslty I couldn't stand his new flow at all. Also, I hated most of the songs (especially White America, Without Me, Superman... and a few more. I barely remember most of the songs and the ones that I do left a bad impression )

You didn't like Cleaning Out My Closet, Soldier, or 'Til I Collapse? Those are 3 of Eminem's best songs IMO. And I also think White America is up there too, but you don't like that. I'm having a hard time understanding your preferences b/c theres a lot of stuff i agree on with you but a lot i don't. The way Eminem Show hit me was awesome. MM LP probably hit me harder and made more of an impression (but then again i was in like 7th grade), but I find that Eminem Show has had more of a lasting value with me. I guess it's all just personal opinion though. To each his own.

I don't remember soldier, but don't actually like Cleaing Out my Closet or Til I Collapse. To be honest, my taste changes often. If you had talked to me back when say Cleaning Out was being played everywhere, I would've said I liked the song.
My favorite eminem songs are by far Infinite, Bad Meets Evil, and 313.... he steadily got worse album by album.
To sum it up I prefered him when he had the AZ sound, not the Cage sound.
gotcha. i have to say ive liked his progression, although encore is without a doubt my least favorite work from him (still some great songs on there- yellow brick road comes to mind). i have to say i prefer the more pissed off version of eminem compared to his younger years. that's probably why i like the mm lp and em show the best. to me infinite is great, but it was easily comparable to what other rappers at the time were doing (as you said az for example). It sounds similar to the illmatic style that was popular then. But I think over the years eminem has truly cultivated a sound of his own, which I really respect and dig at the same time.
on a side note, as for the song soldier, it was always my favorite song on the ES. The transition from the kiss skit to that song is the coolest transition i've ever heard.

there's some good rap out there man (granted you have to look few and far in between the slew of bad to mediocre acts, but still theres some people with real talent making strides- see Lupe Fiasco) but that being said i will definitely be happy when we've all got a new em cd to listen to. and that rules you dig the eminem show- i listened to it again today. it never gets old to me.

Start with Blackstar. If you don't like this, you won't dig him. Hopefully, you will love it and get into Talib Kweli just as much as Mos. From there, Black on Both Sides is a perfect transition, and if you want to hear Mos changing up his style a bit and taking a bit of a risk, listen to New Danger (which is awesome btw). Funny how this was exactly the order in which these albums came out. All 3 are sick. Enjoy.

Man you didn't like Blackstar huh? That pretty much set everything up for me. I got into Mos and Talib because of it, as i'm sure many did. Tru3 magic was certainly a bit of a letdown, but i love Mos' other work so much it doesn't hinder my opinion of him as an artist too much. I just home Eminem goes back to his angry self, rather than gross out songs with fart noises/talking about his penis/throwing up. I'm not in middle school anymore here...and was never really into that level of humor. The new song sounds okay, but he's still not the same. It'd be different if I could call his change progression...

Well, yes. It's true Eminem isn't the BEST rapper ever, but he's not horrible. At least, not horrible enough to have something like that be justified as "worst (insert number here) post ever".
The SSLP, MMLP, and the Eminem show were all spectacular. And there were a number of great songs squeezed into Encore. Mosh, Like Toy Soldiers, and Mockingbird were all badass, imo.

The fact is that Eminem is one of the best. MMLP will never be touched. Nobody could recreate anything like that album. It's one of the best rap albums ever made. if someone has listened to a lot of hip hop, an argument can always be made backing up eminem as one of the best rappers (if not the best rapper).

cage came first technically, but didn't put anything significant out until the same year eminem did and claims eminem stole his "act" or copied his style, whatever. i definitely see the similarities, but they were based out of different cities and underground scenes and pretty much started around the same time so i call bullshit. just two offensive white dudes with whiny voices.

paper trail has good singles and the rest shows a huge lack of effort. it's just not very cohesive. but i think almost all of t.i's albums have that problem.
I disagree. Kool G Rap has the best flow in rap hands down. Eminem just went from sounding like AZ to sounding like Cage, in my opinion. (though, maybe Eminem came before Cage? Don't know)
I think everyone has been influenced by other artists but I doubt Eminem gave a fuck about Cage's style. Shit i'm not even sure he even knew or ever listened to Cage. Em and Cage did not and still do not sound the same to me. It's true Em's style has changed up a bit over the years. But I think it's a change that evolves. I don't think he listened to cage and was like "hey i like how this one dude here raps and how he talks about violent things, i'll try to sound like him and talk about this stuff on my next album". Cage says he stole his persona. And that's straight I get it, Cage was a fucked up white dude with a crazy life and lots of problems. But no one has a monopoly on being the white guy who raps, the guy with the crazy upbringing and the guy who likes to say really weird shit when he rhymes.
That's just my 2 cents. Now I wasn't immersed in the hip hop world as an 8 year old when all this shit was initially going down, so this is just me looking back, comparing the songs and claims, then going from there. Who knows what really happened and where/how/why eminem's flow and style changed up over the years? I just know Eminem is dope and fuck it, if he bit anything I can't help but still like him.
The fact remains: he is not AZ. he is not Cage. He's the man because he's Eminem- he's talented as fuck and no matter who people try to compare him to, he's still one of the best.

JS: I mean, it’s awesome. Who produced it? Dre.
JC: The beat is just so unremarkable to me — I couldn’t even tell you what it sounds like. The only thing that sticks out to me is how annoying Em sounds on the hook.
JS: You just don’t like Eminem. Whenever he works with Dr. Dre they have an incredible tightness. It’s like “Forgot About Dre”—the rapping isn’t even that good but the beat molds with the lyrics incredibly.
JC: I just don’t like dumbed-down Eminem. I can’t stand “Superman”, “Just Lose It”, “Smack That.”
JS: I mean his singles aren’t really where to look for smartened up Eminem—especially opening singles.
JC: It’s just, how desperate for cash can you be?
JS: I think he’s just having fun with his friends
JC: There’s a thin line between goofy (”My Name Is”, “The Real Slim Shady”) and plain dumb (”Smack That”, “Crack a Bottle”)
JS: Where do you get dumb from?
JC: “Where’s the rubbers? Who’s got the rubbers?”
JS: What’s bad about needing rubbers? Sometimes you just need rubbers. And sometimes you need to instigate gang bangs with your friends.
JC: It’s also intensely disappointing that among Dre and 50, Em is clearly the best rapper, but comes up with the worst verse. Ignoring the fact that he wrote Dre’s verse, it’s obviously the strongest on the track.
JS: This song is the soundtrack to every party I have ever crashed.
JC: Speaking of crashing, I absolutely love the Dre lines about crashing his car and having a ton of others to choose from.
JS: Well, there you go. Content-wise I can’t really speak to the quality—I just think the rapping is near perfect. Not bar-raising, but perfect for what it is.
JC: As an avid 50 Cent hater, I do have to give it up for his sing-song flow though. He avoids auto-tune but still manages to find some sort of melody, which I can respect. I guess it just comes down to me expecting more from Eminem.
JS: I think Eminem’s done.
JC: I don’t want a party song from him… ever. But least of all after he’s been fat, addicted to pills and out of the limelight.
JS: I’m just glad he still comes over to play sometimes.
JC: He had to have been in a dark place for years now and he just comes weak with this cash grab.
JS: He has millions of dollars.
JC: Well, it became one either way. Isn’t it the fastest selling digital song ever?
JS: This isn’t Nicholas Cage spending his money on prostitutes and then making National Treasure 2.
JC: But it sort of is.
JS: I mean, look at the trajectory of Eminem: he comes on and he’s different and sort of terrifying; then he gets famous so he addresses it; and then everyone get used to him so he does the only thing left to do and goes political; then he becomes complacent and gets bored and retires; and people think he’s dead; now he wants to like have fun with his friends. It’s like Brett Favre retiring and then realizing the only thing he’s good at is football.
JC: Y’know, more power to him. He’s just never been a guy to ‘roll’ with—I want to brood with him. If he’s done with that, then just leave us alone. I just don’t buy the carefree attitude.
JS: That’s ridiculous and so unfair to the artist. He can do what he wants. So are you convinced? Can we put this ugliness behind us?

True. The final product is what matters at the end.
Also, have you read this (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/eminems-backbut-does-the-world-still-need-him-1648075.html)?
i went and read some of it. i'm not worried. there's no one like em. i'm already digging the single. all it took was a few listens.

Oh, Bill O'Reilly, you so crazy...
Can you believe Drew said Em has done nothing good since The Marshall Mathers LP?
Well let's see...Eminem Show was released after MM and Encore had Evil Deeds, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Spend Some Time, etc. And who could forget about When I'm Gone. Maybe the best song he ever wrote...so um wrong.

Hahahahaha, I meant to edit that. Really hope he doesn't see that quote of mine. Personally, I enjoy TES more than The SSLP, but that's probably just me. The Eminem Show shows that the dude doesn't have to be angrier than Satan to put out some unbelievable shit.
And I was hoping to not have anyone ask me that...

That new song is fucking stupid.
I feel like Eminem hasn't progressed as a rapper since 2003. It just sounds like the same shit.
not sure why this hasn't been posted yet. it was mentioned in the general hip hop forum:

Oh oh oh oh oh ooh
there is no escaping
there's no place to hide
you seen someone saved me
but they don't pay no mind
goodnight, goodbye
you're walkin' down the horror corridor
its almost 4 in the morning and you're in a
nightmare it's horrible, right there's the coroner
waiting for ya to turn the corner so he can corner ya
you're a goner he's onto ya
out the corner of his cornea he just saw ya run
all you want is to rest cuz ya can't run anymore you're done
all he wants is to kill u in front of an audience
while everybody is watching in the party applauding it
here i sit while i'm caught up in deep thought again
contemplating my next plot again
swallowin' a Klonopin while i'm noddin in and out on the ottoman
??? and holdin' onto the pill bottle then
lick my finger and swirl it round the bottom
and make sure i got all of it
wake up naked at mcdonald's with blood all over me
dead bodies behind the counter shit
guess i musta just blacked out again
not again
its 3 am in the morning put my key in the door
bodies laying all over the floor and
i don't remember how they got there but i guess i musta'
killed em, killed em
its 3 am in the morning put my key in the door
bodies laying all over the floor and
i don't remember how they got there but i guess i musta'
killed em, killed em
sitting nude in my living room its almost noon
i wonder what's on the tube maybe they'll show some boobs
surfing every channel until i find hanna montana
then i reach for the aloe and lanolin
bust all over the wall panel and
dismantlin' every candle on top of the fireplace mantle
and grab my flannel and my bandana then
kiss the naked mannequin man again
you can see him standin' in my front window if you look in
i'm just a hooligan who's used to usin' hallucinogens
causin' illusions again, brain contusions again
cutting and bruising the skin
razors, scissors and pins
jesus when does it end?
phases that i go through
dazed and i'm so confused
days that i don't know who
gave these molecules to
me what am i gon' do?
pay the prodigal son
the diabolical one
very methodical when i slaughter them
CHORUS X2
she puts the lotion in the bucket
it puts the lotion on the skin
or else it gets the hose again
she puts the lotion in the bucket
it puts the lotion on the skin
or else it gets the hose again
i ??? and i slash, slice and gash
last night was a blast i can't quite
remember when i had that much fun off a half pint of a jack
my last vic and a half, a flashlight up kim kardashian's ass
i remember the first time i dismembered a family member
december i think it was i was havin' drinks with my cousin
i wrapped him in christmas lights pushed him in the stinkin' tub
cut him up into pieces and just when i went to drink his blood
i thought i outta drink his bathwater
that outta be fun
that's when my days of serial murder
manslaughter begun
the sight of blood excites me
that might be an artery son
your bloodcurdlin' screams
just don't seem to bother me none
its 3 am and here i come
so u should probably run
a secret passageway around here
man there's got to be one
oh no there's probably none
he can scream all that he wants
top of his lungs
it ain't no stoppin' me from choppin' him up up
CHORUS X2
if anyone can figure out what he's saying where i have the ???s let me know
